this can’t be the same heat george washington was wearing a wig in

Jul 3, 2026

Typing this after midnight — officially a new day — and it’s still 85°. Our heat advisory has been moved up another day, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s moved up yet another one or two. There’s also an extreme heat warning — like the advisory wasn’t enough.

Jackson County hasn’t told us to set our thermostats at 78°.

For energy efficiency and grid stabilization, NYC’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani has urged residents and businesses there to set air conditioners to 78°F during the ongoing extreme heat wave. It’s voluntary at least, but still hard to imagine. My Momma would fit right in there… the room she sits in feels like a sauna to me.

My bad back and I headed to the pool in the heat of the day and sat on the steps for a short time yesterday. My shoulders got pink. Crazy because it was pretty darned cloudy outside at the time.

I might need a loan to pay my electric bill this month.

Until the bill comes, I’m not going to complain. Sure, I worry about the doggos feet on the hot painted deck (even with rug runners), but summer is amazing even when it’s hotter than I’d like.

I just put ice in my coffee instead of drinking it hot, and the world keeps turning.

What are you doing to combat the heat wave?

I play the shade game — you know… where you pull the shades down to cover windows according to where the sun is in the sky — and that helps. I also limit the time I spend outside (especially in the sun) and keep my dogs inside most of the time too. Dharma would lie in the grass until she had a heat stroke.

How about you? And is your house temp set to 78°?

Now you know: Dr. Stephen Hatch killed his wives and families TWICE due to basic flight errors while flying his private planes. In 2004, he killed his wife and 2 children, but he and son Austin survived. In 2011, his flight errors caused his new wife to die along with 2 family dogs and himself — but yet again, his son Austin survived.
