you’ve heard the saying about biting off more than you can chew, right?

Oct 20, 2026

Currently here at the barndo, evenings are in the 30’s and daytime temps are in the 70’s. Still too warm to have a fire in the boiler but too chilly for no heat at all. That means we’re using the mini splits.

Heat pumps don’t put out hot air.

If you’re used to gas heat — or wood heat or radiant floor heat — you’ll find that heat pumps simply don’t feel “warm.” Matter of fact, if they’re blowing on you, the air feels like you’re running the A/C even on heat mode. I know this because my bed was directly under one.

After spending an entire night with my hair blowing around, I decided that was enough. So yesterday, I got up with big aspirations of moving the bedroom furniture. With my pathetic back, I went to war in there thinking that I likely bit off more than I could chew.

But no!

Merida approves!

All 3 dogs were in my way the entire time I was moving furniture and sweeping and mopping the floors in there. Merida couldn’t wait for me to finish so she could try out the new location.

Merida owns the bed.

She doesn’t even notice (or doesn’t care) that I’m walking around humped over because my brain overworked my poor back.

The upside is that I slept great last night without my nose feeling so cold I thought it might break off. 🙂

Now you know: The indigenous Khasi people of Northeast India practice a strict matrilineal system where children take their mother’s surname, husbands move into their wife’s family home (the mother-in-law’s home), and the youngest daughter inherits all family wealth and ancestral property.
