I went to Seymour Decorating to check prices on flooring for the Escape the 80’s House Project and got a whole lot more service than I expected. Not only did I get explanations and hold-in-your-hand visual examples of flooring options (something you can’t do online) from the owner, but after his trip to measure the interior he also supplied a list of 10 things that would provide the highest ROI (return on investment) for my project. Then he said he felt like he was on set for filming of ‘The Partridge Family.’
I’ll be sharing the list of items as the work progresses here. The first item on the list was the hardest for me to think about because it’s the most time-consuming, no-fun work — and was Ben’s (my favorite son) very first suggestion that I brushed off. PAINT ALL THE TRIM IN THE HOUSE. Nooooooooo!!! I guess walnut-stained trim and doors are more “80’s” than I realized, (not to mention it limits color choices insofar as wood flooring) so I got a couple estimates to do the dreaded trim painting — neither of which came back under $3k.
After giving me a DIY lesson and selling me a couple brushes, primer and paint, we’re about to begin the #1 ROI item on the list because hiring it done isn’t within my budget.
There was no mention of extended periodic breaks in the patio room, but I’m sure he just forgot to include that most important step.
