an open window

Mar 21, 2010

My good friend, Mike Hall of The Pines Restaurant, posted the other day about opening the windows at his place to let in fresh air after the long, cold winter. I read that post, got up immediately and opened my windows. One in the bedroom hasn’t been closed since.

When I think about living someplace different, it also makes me think more about the ‘here and now’, and what I’d miss if I were someplace else. Living on the outskirts of the burg, an open window at night is pretty awesome. I hear all those country noises — from crickets to birds, and from a soft rain to wind rustling the chimes on the back deck. No cars traveling or horns blowing or sirens blaring or neighbors talking or anything like that at all. (Libby occasionally hears something she doesn’t like and barks like crazy — no doubt the neighbor’s cat that she would love to have for breakfast.)

Rural Indiana is serene with a window open (especially at night). That I would surely miss. So c’mon and open a window y’all. If you get too chilly, just turn the heat up a little bit. That’s what I do.
