my treacherous adventure to the bank

Dec 13, 2024

Needing to make a bank deposit and mail in my juror selection paperwork (yes, I was selected AGAIN!!), I wasn’t sure what to do with Hugo.

I pondered 3 options:

  • Option #1 – leave him in the crate — I’d have to bring it in from the garage and place it in a barren wasteland knowing he will go bat shit crazy trying to get free.
  • Option #2 — leave him loose in the house with the girls… not knowing what he could tear up without parental supervision for 15-20 minutes.
  • Option #3 — take him with me.

I love Merida… but SHE is the problem!

Merida regularly gets everyone (people and dogs) all stirred up. I decided on option #3 and started out by putting Hugo on a leash. While trying to get him out the door into the garage and in the car for his adventure, Merida jetted out the door while he was frantically spinning to get free. Dharma followed. Merida took off into the front yard with me yelling, “BONE!” Dharma stayed in the garage but was heading to the door until the mention of food came into play and I got them back inside.

Once in the car, Hugo shook and tried to get on my lap. When I pulled into the bank drive-through, he was on top of me trying to get out the window. He did pretty good once we left the bank… I took him the back roads to the post office and he laid down in the car.

Hugo didn’t do bad for the first outing… but then we had to get back in the house.

Coming in the back door, the girls greeted him like he’d been gone for months. Merida, with red eyes caused by uncontrollable excitement, jumped and acted crazy for at least 10 minutes. Dharma just wanted to check out his butt. During that 10-minute free for all, Merida jumped up and tore my leather coat, and ripped the skin on the back of my hand.

I think about Katie driving back and forth to Sevierville, TN with 2 dogs (sometimes 4) without issues when I can’t drive 2 miles to the freaking bank without it turning into a monumental event. ARG!!

Now they’re all sleeping while my blood pressure is likely 200/100. 🙂
