Without telling your age, name a band that was popular when you were in high school.
We’ll wait…
For some of us, that’s been so long ago that we actually have to THINK about it — and others of us could name 20 without even trying. I’m others. 😉
Easy to tell the decade I was in high school…

Besides being able to list several popular bands during my high school years, I can even name my brother’s favorites — he was an Eagles fan with some Simon & Garfunkel and the Doobie Brothers thrown in. If he was feeling really rebellious, he’d listen to Credence Clearwater Revival.
We were pretty darned far apart (and still are) insofar as our taste in music. I was Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Queen, and Black Sabbath. Oh… and ZZ Top, Van Halen, Tom Petty, and Skynyrd.
Choosing a “class song”…
When our class chose our song, “Love Will Keep Us Together,” by Captain & Tennille, I voted for “Margaritaville,” by Jimmy Buffett. I lost. Some of my classmates thought we’d all keep in touch and that sappy pop song was just perfect. Looking back over the past gazillion and ten years since then, I’d still vote for Margaritaville if I got a do-over.

Now you know: On Oct. 20, 1977, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s twin-engine plane crashed in a Mississippi swamp, killing three of the band members, including singer Ronnie Van Zant. It would be a decade before the remaining members returned to tour and record. Still, the band’s legacy was cemented in those early years and its influence is still felt in rock today.
