the stage in life when you get excited about work appliances

Nov 1, 2025

Yesterday, the battery powered scrubber I ordered came in. Wooot! How crazy is it that I’m excited over a tool that will make cleaning a bathroom easier? I’m not sure what stage of life that started happening, but it’s here now for me.

chilly fall day

I’m also excited about warm floors.

Today is fire in the hole 2025! Radiant floor heat is the bomb, you guys. When cold concrete becomes warm, it’s a heavenly miracle.

When I lived for decades in the little house, warmth was provided by a heat pump. Although there was also a wood stove off and on throughout that time, it simply made things TOO hot in that small space. I remember opening the windows when snow was falling while sweating like it was August. Relying on the heat pump, with an electric furnace for really frigid temps, it always felt chilly in that house. Even when the thermometer showed it was 73°, it never felt like it.

The barndo also feels chilly without the outside wood boiler cranking, although the thermostat says otherwise. While I love gas heat — radiant floor heating is even better. Once the wood is burning strong, it still takes a good while to heat all that water.

We should have never ending HOT water by tomorrow!

No waiting for warm water once the wood boiler is in charge. The second you want hot water, it’s there — so hot it will melt the flesh off your bones. I actually use my dishwasher in the winter months, and turn the dial back for laundry from “warm” to “cool” simply because there’s not a 1/2 tub of cold that’s dispensed before the warm actually kicks in.

It’s glorious! And it’s one more reason to love fall.
