I wasn’t going to share the following story but figure I might as well. Maybe it will do someone some good.
It started with my 3 hounds barking at something outside.
Last week, late at night my dogs thought they heard something. It was warm, right before the big freeze, and I assumed it was nothing but a forrest creature wandering in the trees. I let Hugo and Merida out into the fenced-in yard shortly thereafter. (Dharma goes out by herself and requires an escort.) When I went to the door to let them back inside, only Merida was there.
I called and called for Hugo and was about to get the remote to beep his collar when I heard him whining. He was trying to get back into the yard through the closed front gate. How the heck did he get out of the fence??
Well… this is how…

The wood chunks that were embedded in mud were moved and the gate was pushed in — wide open. Even the hinge side was lifted off the metal pegs. The dogs didn’t do it and neither did the wind.
Of course, that was the only spot not covered by cameras… but it is now!
I don’t know any good reason why someone would want to open that gate. Seriously, whatever could be taken from here wouldn’t be worth the risk to any human. We have guns and wouldn’t hesitate to use them. We have three dogs and 2 of them would be dangerous around strangers.
Just be aware of your surroundings no matter where you live. It’s easy to think you’re safe when you live in the country. You get complacent. But the world can be an ugly place no matter where your home is. Pay attention, be prepared, and protect yourself.
Now you know: In the 1960s, Dr Pepper launched a huge campaign to convince people to drink their soda boiling hot. To combat low sales during the winter, they marketed “Hot Dr Pepper” which was to be heated in a saucepan until steaming and poured over a fresh slice of lemon. It was popular until the 80s.
