a day in the life — according to Hugo

Feb 15, 2026

I often wonder what Hugo thinks I am to him. Am I his human? The alpha dog of the pack? The one that controls food and outside access? Oh! If dogs could only talk for 24-hours, this little dude would have so much to say!

Hugo's life

If I’m gone for 30-minutes — or even if he’s shut in a different part of the house from me at times we have visitors — he acts like he hasn’t seen me for months the second he gains access. What does he think happens during those short and infrequent intervals?

Are ALL rescue dogs needy and clingy?

Gracie is the only other dog I’ve adopted — and the owner pushed her into our car with a kick. She had similar issues for the 13 years we had her. Her fears and quirks were embedded into her psyche until the day she died.

Along comes Hugo and I’m pretty sure his childhood (puppyhood?) was pretty darned awful. He’s never chewed up a single thing. He was easy to housebreak. He quivers when strangers are here and he must be watched because he will bite — but he refuses to “play bite” like every other dog I’ve owned. If he decides to bite, there’s blood involved — it’s not a play tactic.

He’s stuck to me 24/7.

Hugo is a glue ball

If you have a pet, what would they say about you?

Now you know: McDonald’s is estimated to have spent $300m on the research, production & marketing for the Arch Deluxe. Despite having the largest advertising & promotional budget in fast food history at the time, it failed to become popular. It’s considered one of the most expensive product flops of all time.
