i don’t get it

May 11, 2010

I haven’t had a ton of time to post here since returning from Florida. I’m still playing catch up. But I’ve had this on my mind for the past several days…

The pesky neighbors stay in a park in Florida and it’s an ‘over 55’ community. It seems like every other place is someone from Indiana escaping the frigid winter temps. The other half of the residents are from a ton of different places. For example, we met two wonderful couples that are not US citizens — couple #1 from Nova Scotia and Couple #2 from Manchester, England.

They talked about their love for the area and how much they hated to return home to the colder weather. Both couples were active and spending money and eating at Red Lobster and supporting tourism in Bradenton, Florida, USA. I asked them why they didn’t stay another month until their weather was warmer. They explained they were only allowed 6 months in the US. They had to check in at the border within the time frame allowed, or they could be banned from returning for 5 years.

So I don’t get it… our federal government fails to enforce immigration laws and we have a bajillion illegals loitering around — but these couples who are abiding by the law, spending money and contributing to our country’s economy are pushed out and locked away on the other side of our borders.
