The crothersville.net website and community forum have been around for about 11 years. With Facebook and Twitter as a way to spread news throughout the neighborhoods, the visits are minimal, and posts on the forum are limited to about 10 people. A bit sad, but it is progress. I’m seriously thinking about shutting it down. There are a couple of problems that cause me to think along those lines…
- People can post there anonymously. Registration with a valid email address is required, and my admins and I know who they are, but the average person reading has no clue — and that simply makes it a place for spouting opinions that folks are too afraid to post under their own name on Facebook or other public online media outlets.
- Keeping the business section updated is time consuming. With businesses now closed and other businesses wanting to be included in the list when they really aren’t located in Crothersville, I’m spending my time for no money and little gain for my community.
Back in the day, we had guest writers — the Old Timer and Rhude Ramblings on Genealogy. We had a monthly update of “Where are They Now”, an article about what someone from Crothersville was doing at that time. Also offered was an “Old Photos” section updated monthly with photos from long ago. We had a “Just for Fun” area with new word search puzzles and photo ‘guess who/where’ offerings. And get this…
So here’s what I’m gonna do… Every Tuesday, right here, I will feature a post that contains something old and saved that once appeared on Crothersville.net. Although both the Old Timer and Mr. Rhude are long gone from this earth, their stories will be thrown in the mix as well. Even though the featured people probably aren’t where they were when the story appeared, it should still be fun. Right?
As a teaser… see if you can name these Crothersville teachers: (This appeared on crothersville.net in 2001.)
