He almost died!

I drove the afternoon bus route today and am grateful for the narrow escape made by one of the students. He almost died!

It was just getting dark the previous evening, and the weeds were blowing softly in the wind when Mr. Bus Student walked outside. He took his trusty slingshot and edged into the woods behind his country home. He heard the menacing howl of coyotes in the distance. And then all of a sudden — there it was!! A coyote looking him square in the eye.

He pulled his slingshot up and bravely aimed. The small rock hit the evil dog-like creature in the butt with a thud. Mr. Bus Student thought his shot would cause the ferocious animal to run in fear, but no! The wild (and most likely rabid) coyote dashed straight towards him in a full run! Dust was flying along the path behind the aggressive and extremely dangerous four-footed one as he made his way straight for his prey. Mr. Bus Student kicked at the bad coyote, stunning it for a moment and knocking it to the ground. He straddled the mangey beast and pulled it into a tight headlock, hoping for the best.

As the gnarling pack circled around, ready to pounce, Mr. Bus Student let go of his captive. The badly beaten coyote was free at last, and limped back to join the others. Seeing of his misfortune at the hands of such a brave human, the entire pack turned and ran away with their tails tucked between their legs.

What a close call! I’m so thankful that everything turned out ok!
