The good list

I’ve always said that I hate it when people give others a ‘bad list’ without also including a good one as well. You know, it’s like when your boss says, “You screwed up that last project.” Period. While you might’ve actually screwed it up — you would be more inclined to fix it, or do better next time if he/she would’ve tried a different approach. Something like, “Although your last project was unsuccessful, you did a great job organizing the data. Next time, try blah blah blah…”

So my bad list for the day — it’s early, but these 2 things really (and I mean REALLY) get under my skin:

  • 1. Pushy callers. If you call one of my numbers and get my voice mail — I’m simply not able to take your call at that time. While it’s ok for friends or family to track me down for personal stuff — I hate it when a client wanting ‘work related’ stuff does. Leave your message and I’ll return the call when I am available. Don’t call every number you have for me and leave messages everywhere. I’m not a doctor. Nothing I do is a matter of life or death, and I keep regular office hours. If I’m busy helping you, you’d be happy that I let another caller go to voicemail. Right? Might I suggest that those of you playing along at home show the same respect to every single one of your clients, colleagues and business associates. I’m willing to bet that pushy callers drive them crazy too.
  • 2. SPAM email with virus attachments. The latest subject line is,”We have hijacked your baby!” For $50,000.00 I can have it back. For looking at the attachment to the email (normally named photo.exe), I can install malware that consists of password stealing trojans. No thanks — keep my baby already!

Now for today’s good list:

While I really love looking at photos of places where I’m not — for example palm trees when it’s 2 degrees in Indiana, or snowy mountain peaks in August — I also appreciate the beauty of right-here, right-now shots taken in the burg. Here are two little ‘good list’ things…
