A new future – or a “pipedream”

Ever hear of a man named T. Boone Pickens? If not – you should look him up.

Pickens has launched an ambitious plan to free our country from foreign oil dependency and start using alternative fuels for transportation. You can read about his plan here.

The 80-year-old Pickens has already ordered 600+ wind turbines for what would be the world’s largest wind power farm. Pickens has called for wind turbines to be placed from the Texas panhandle up to North Dakota.

These farms, if completed, would supply the country with 20% of the nation’s power into the power grid. Pickens plan also calls for natural gas to be diverted from existing power plants for use in automobiles. While natural gas burns cleaner, it is not a renewable fuel source – something critics to Pickens plan point to as reasons for not supporting it.

While the plan in itself is fascinating, it is a risk and comes at enormous cost.

So read up on this interesting plan and see for yourself whether this is a step towards our energy future – or an energy “pipedream.”
