One of the disadvantages of living in rural Indiana is you have to actually MAKE mashed potatoes. I know I’m supposed to be thankful that I’m able to get out of bed and peel potatoes. I’m not. But I AM thankful for a bajillion other things, three of which are right here:
From the first year I moved into a house of my own, Thanksgiving evening has been when my Christmas decorating begins. Being the child of self-employed business owners, I remember many years the holiday tree was decorated on the eve of Christmas Eve (and taken down in February). I vowed it would be different for my household — and it has been. Belly full of turkey, ham, “MADE” mashed potatoes and much more, it will begin to look a lot like Christmas around here by nightfall.
I almost forgot! If you’re looking for something special to cook today, check out the Crothersville Times newspaper. There’s a recipe section in the Thanksgiving edition! The column is entitled, “First You Get a Turkey.” First graders from Crothersville Elementary have detailed how to prepare their favorite Thanksgiving dish. Here’s the one I chose:
Turkey
Catch a turkey. Let it out of the cage then put some turkey food in the oven and tell him that it is a tanning bed. Then get him out and pluck his feathers. Put seasoning on him. Then eat him.
