My puppies aren’t sure if they’re coming or going either… and here lately, I’m a bit confused myself.
Another round of storms today had me chasing down lost items all over the place. It’s time for summer to take up occupancy in the Ville and hang around till at least November.
All my people are dealing with challenges — including me!
My back is jacked up… it’s the worst it’s been since my surgery 10 or so years ago. I’m not sure what I did (or didn’t do), but I THINK I can get it back to decent without another surgery.
I could’ve injured it mowing with the new push mower (turning means twisting and that is bad), or when I was weed eating (stepping in ruts while wielding a heavy, long item and twisting is bad), or when I was riding the mower (places in this yard are like a washboard and hard bouncing is bad).
It’s more likely that it’s a combination of the above PLUS having contractors daily (skipping exercise is very bad). ๐ฌ
Big bro has issues too!
My favorite brother’s rotator cuff is shot and requires surgery right away. After shoulder surgery, he gets to wear a sling for 4-6 weeks and sleep propped up for 9-12 months. Add to that his recent scare with high blood pressure and his never ending episodes of gout, and he’s a mess.
Mamma Pesky also has a complaint.
Mom needs a pedicure. Seriously… her complaint is she has a toenail bothering her! She’s a wee bit older than either my brother or me and we seem to be falling apart… while she’s wanting her toenails painted purdy.
So what’s wrong with you?
If you’re reading this, I hope you’re happy and healthy. In the scheme of things, our challenges aren’t huge and all are “fixable.” I’m grateful for my health… but this latest back thing has reminded me how important it is to take care of yourself.
Today I Learned: Despite a growing population, full time college enrollment peaked in 2010 and has been dropping ever since.
My injured eye is feeling so much better — but it’s still about 1/2 the size of the other one. I could be a direct descendant of Popeye.
The Colonel fed us dinner.
My favorite brother and sister-in-law rolled through the Ville yesterday afternoon with Mom’s favorite food — KFC. Because I believe you should never miss a photo opportunity with family, we took only a few shots. None of them were great.
Because my eye is so sensitive to light, Mr. Pesky dimmed them all. But if only someone would look at me the way Mozzie looks at him… she’s either in love or she doesn’t want to miss what he does next.
And then came Taco Bell!
Katie and Charlie showed up late with fast food. Being back home in the Ville means there’s more people coming around. Sometimes, they just use your kitchen’s bar to eat and temp the fat puppies with food they don’t get to share. ๐
Decent weather for Easter weekend – yippee!
It’s Easter weekend and Perry’s not working so I have no clue what we’ll be able to accomplish around here. So much outside work to do and I’m hoping we see a bit of progress. One thing for certain — you will NOT see me behind a weedeater. ๐
TIL (Today I Learned): Ancient Greek philosopher, Anaxagoras, was arrested, exiled, and was almost put to death for saying that the sun and moon were objects, and not gods.
The weather in the Ville is much warmer than it’s been of late. That means that the ole’ stink bugs are waking up and I’ve spotted a few in the last couple days. This morning, Merida heard one land on the floor.
So she ate it!
She rubbed her face on the carpet for 30-minutes and then fought me like she was rabid as I washed her face. Crisis averted, she’s ready for a nap.
What about me?
After reviewing yesterday’s post, I’m wondering if I have a medical emergency of my own. I know my brother has a huge head, but seriously… do I have like a pin head or something? ๐ฏ
Mom is closer to the camera so in perspective, I’m guessing hers is a normal sized head. Scott and I are side by side and good grief!! It’s like a watermelon next to a grapefruit. I shared the photo on Facebook and someone said Scott and I looked alike. Are you kidding me??
TIL (Today I Learned): In 1915 a farmer saw his sister make her own mascara with coal and petrolium jelly and thought he could make a better product. His invention was easier to apply and won’t burn a woman’s eye. He named his new company Maybelline after his sister Maybel and the base material Vaseline.
My favorite brother was here today. Of course, that means family photos…
Looking through them all, I noticed something.
Now I understand I’m old — and with age comes wrinkles. Of course, I’m not thrilled with that; however, I noticed that Carl and Scott are BOTH a good deal older than I am and they don’t have as many.
So all I need to do to look my best is to eat a bunch of donuts and grow a beard.
I need facial hair. Lots of it. That will cover up wrinkles. The other option is to gain a bunch of weight. It’s a fact that heavier people have more fat padding just beneath the skin (subcutaneous fat). That means they also have extra collagen too (the protein that gives skin elasticity).
How would ‘more elasticity’ work at my age with wrinkles already in place? I’m thinking that sounds a bit dangerous. The beard thing? I could TOTALLY figure that out. ๐
Colder temps are back this morning. As I let the puppies outside after their breakfast and saw smoke chugging out of the wood boiler, I was reminded of a photo I took a couple days ago when it was warmer.
The photo below looks like a few homes in rural Indiana — there’s corn, right? ๐
To me, the image depicts my past, present, and my future. (Queue soft background music.)
The house in the middle.
The house in the middle is where I spent my childhood. Starting out without the addition you see now, it was first just a small Bedford stone home surrounded by fields. The little red barn behind the house still stands. That’s where my first pony, Fuzzy, lived. It’s where Jerilyn got her foot stuck in a post hole and where Scott hid in a bathroom reading while everyone else helped in the fields.
The renovation and addition came about when I was in high school. It was the place I entertained so many friends and formed a bajillion lasting memories.
The house on the right.
The house on the right is where I moved with my 4 year-old son. I drew the plans with help from my Momma and couldn’t wait to move in. Carl used a tractor to level the ground before the house was built and Nanny sewed the curtains that hung in the living room for years afterward. It started out around 1000 square feet and didn’t grow to just above 1500 square feet until around 12-years had passed.
Although I moved and rented that house for a few years, it still felt like it should be my home. I spent around $40K to put it back together once the renters moved (being a weak landlord does not make for a good outcome) and I moved back in myself. Ben and his former wife lived there with me for a time — and a few years after that, Ben moved back in with my granddaughter. Once I moved to Seymour, Ben and Coco lived there until it was sold.
The house on the left.
Those Pesky neighbors! I’ve never lived in that barndo, (Green Acres for those playing along at home) but we’ve gathered there more than a few times. My Momma will spend her remaining years there, and I’m pretty sure Carl will, as well. For me… I’ll spend what time I’ve got left right here with this same view.
In the future, I may have a place where the weather is warmer to spend some time in the winter months, but this place right here is my home. This view belongs to me. ๐
TIL (Today I Learned): The IRS has specific tax codes requiring you to report money earned from selling illegal drugs, taking illegal bribes, and the fair market value of anything you stole as taxable income.
