Carotid artery ultrasound appointment for my Momma this morning at the local hospital has me needing a nap and it’s not yet 10:00 AM. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m not a morning person. I’m a full-fledged, card-carrying night owl.
As we were waiting to check-in, I heard a familiar voice talking on a phone. The person was hidden around a corner but I immediately knew who it was. NaLona had her Momma at the hospital too — getting an ultrasound of her kidneys. Of course, we included her in our obligatory selfie. Mom looks better than either one of us.
Mom simply MUST stay healthy and appointment free next week because she and Mr. Pesky have doggie detail while I’m gone. We had to board Ben’s dog and cat and that expense wasn’t horrible. But big dogs are on a whole different level — $100 bucks a night for my two if they stay in the same area together. When they started talking about “‘condo” and “penthouse” I knew the price would be scary.
Today is Thanksgiving Day and our little family gathered for a very non-traditional meal. Mom LOVES KFC… LOVES it. She would take you to the mat over a drumstick, and that’s what she wanted for Thanksgiving. So that’s what we got… yesterday.
We had to buy the food yesterday because KFC is closed for Thanksgiving. Yes, we had microwaved chicken for Thanksgiving. Cousin, NaLona, delivered a huge plate of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, corn and deviled eggs (traditional food) and I ate more of her stuff than I did of ours. How awesome that she was there BEFORE we ate. 🙂
Before leaving to go home, we had to take a family photo. Nothing says ‘family’ like the love my Mom has for her dog, Mozzie. Getting ready for photos, Mom insisted that she hold the dog and snatched her from Carl’s arms with lightning precision. Mozzie isn’t a calm dog (sort of like Merida) and wasn’t keen on the whole photo thing.

Take Three (the only decent one):
It really was a great day. Hope all y’all had a wonderful Thanksgiving too!
Today is my favorite brother’s birthday. The day he turns FIVE YEARS older than me. While that only lasts until March, I enjoy it just the same. To celebrate, I had spaghetti for breakfast! (Don’t judge me… breakfast was at noon!)
I’m the only one around here that will eat spaghetti. After I ate what I wanted when it was made a few weeks back, I put the rest in lunch-sized containers in the freezer. I gave myself a pat on the back for that today. Our local hospital has a drive-through COVID booster clinic that’s open from 7am-9am next Monday. I may have to again have spaghetti for breakfast to celebrate that too.
So happy birthday to my favorite sibling — the one who told me when I was a mere youngster, “The police brought you. Mom and Dad aren’t REALLY your parents.” (Queue Bill Cosby’s — at the time LP album — To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With.) Scott thought it was a hoot back in 1968. I cried every single time he teased me. What a jerk, right?
He’s still a jerk sometimes, but not as often as when we were living together growing up.
TIL (Today I Learned): Only 8 countries in the world do not guarantee paid family leave. The US is one of them.
Outside… not a human within 6′ except for immediate family, and I have a mask hanging off one ear. Do I get extra points for that? At least an ‘atta girl?
COVID infections seem to be going down around here. Probably because people are masking across their nose and mouth and not just letting them hang off one ear.
Columbus Regional Hospital is again doing some non-emergency procedures, and Jackson County is showing as declining in positive cases. ISDH has our county at 2 (orange) instead of 3 (red like Jennings County). Nice improvement from where we were a few short weeks ago. Indiana is currently #23 on the severe list, Nevada is in slot 7, and believe it or not… Florida is looking great and in the 49th slot.
If wearing a mask on one ear didn’t get me any points, how about this?
Lemon blueberry bundt cake without the blueberries. I liked it better, Perry likes it better with blueberries, and the peskies like any kind of food. My Momma baked a persimmon pudding (my very favorite dessert on the planet!) the same day, so we swapped out a few pieces. The persimmon pudding was amazing so Mom gets all the extra points on this one. 🙂
TIL (Today I Learned): Gordon Ramsay has 16 Michelin Stars. Only two chefs have ever earned more — Joel Robuchon and Alain Ducasse… not Polly and Shelley.
Today I went with the Peskies for the Mister’s last post-op surgery on his back. The doctor took a look and said everything was good. He’s now released to do pretty much anything he wants. No restrictions… just a caution to lift with his legs and “not be stupid” when it comes to what he can and can’t do. Lifting while twisting is the biggest NO NO, so someone else will have to do the dishes for the unforeseeable future 😉
COVID restrictions are back in place at OrthoIndy. A screening before entering the building is again required. Still, the seating isn’t modified for distancing and the number of people waiting was as big as I’ve seen it. The longer we’re required to wear masks the harder it gets — at least for me anyway. It’s not something I think I’ll ever get used to. I guess when you have to do it every day (like Perry at work and so many others), you don’t continue to feel like you’re about to suffocate.
The puppies were sure glad to see me when I got back! What do people without dogs look forward to when coming home after a few hours away?
TIL (Today I Learned): John C. Malone is the largest private landowner in the United States. He owns upwards to 2.2 million acres! Ole’ John was the CEO of a cable and media giant (TCI) and is now chairman and the largest voting shareholder of Liberty Media (SiriusXM, the Atlanta Braves, Formula One), Starz, Inc. and more. He’s 80 years-old and will be leaving you nothing in his will.
