AI’s capability to create images from photos, and the bubble

I love to laugh at real photos made into something else — like a different scene, clothing, or style. You might remember the pirate selfies I created via AI and shared, but my latest endeavor is funnier by far.

I started with ChatGPT and an image of family from Thanksgiving.

With Christmas rapidly approaching, I thought it would be awesome for all of us to be dressed like elves. I asked ChatGPT to only edit the clothes and the background. I typed a full paragraph of nothing but verbiage instructing the app NOT to alter anything at all with faces — they should be kept pixel perfect. The result?

And then I laughed and laughed and sent the photo to my favorite brother. He said, “Oh man — I can’t get my breath because I’m laughing so hard. Poor Mom looks like one of those women that they interview who spent their life in prison.

Next, I gave ImagineArt a go at it…

While a whole lot better, the image below did require some of my PhotoShop love. I pulled Mom’s face from another photo and added it, and made Colette’s arms the same length (one looked like it belonged on a Tyrannosaurus Rex). Oh! And Perry had 2 arms on one side of his body. 🙄

And finally, I turned to Grok Imagine for the grand finale…

Mom playing her dog like an air guitar makes me laugh every single time I watch it.

Let’s talk about the AI Bubble…

The term “AI bubble” refers to the concern that today’s massive investment and hype around artificial intelligence could resemble past speculative bubbles—most famously the dot-com bubble—where valuations outpaced real economic value.

The concerns stem from gains and explosive stock market growth that are largely driven by AI expectations, not traditional product growth. In addition, there’s HUGE capital spending and customer demand isn’t scaling fast enough. Do you know of any large company, device, news organization or social media platform that isn’t using it?

What do you think? Will we see a “burst” — just a bubble deflated — or do you see AI increasing in demand and value?

thanksgiving is a memory and the leftovers are gone

thanksgiving is a memory and the leftovers are gone

The last of the turkey, noodles, deviled eggs, and dressing have been eaten. The last of the pies are gone too. The only dish I wish I had more of is my Momma’s slaw. We all just love it and it goes quickly. I’m not sure I’ll be ready for more turkey by Christmastime even. When you have a small family, you eat turkey forever.

Snow last night and I wasn’t the only one feeling festive!

Dharma LOVES cold weather. While one might think it would be harder on her stiff joints, it makes her frisky instead.

The ole’ girl was ready to go back outside before the ice on her back was gone — even with Hugo helping out. 😉

My cousin Sherry visited before the snow hit…

We look soooo much alike, don’t you think? 😉

Selfie with Sherry

We reminisced about family gatherings from long ago. Her Dad was my Dad’s brother — and her Mom and mine were very good friends. That meant we visited their place quite often on Sunday afternoons — and they were at our house at various times too. Mom thought Sherry and her sister, Debra, were wild. I’m sure Aunt Irene thought the same thing about me and my brother. 🙂

Mom loves telling the story that I gave Sherry my brother’s coin collection because she cried. Ole’ Scott checked dates and put nickels, dimes, and quarters into books. I popped the money out of those slots and sent it all home with my bawling cousin.

It’s back to work tomorrow for most people.

But for Dharma, it will be more grunting to go outside. ARG!

Dharma wants out AGAIN!

Here’s hoping you and yours had a fabulous holiday. Christmas is right around the corner! 🎄

way too much food for a small family

way too much food for a small family

Those pesky neighbors put out quite the spread yesterday for Thanksgiving. All the food was amazing, and the company was even better. 🩷

Here’s hoping you and yours had a wonderful holiday!

So many things to be thankful for — decent lighting for family photos isn’t one of those things.

But I am filled with gratitude for family, the comfort of shared meals, and the simple moments that weave our lives together. This holiday is a reminder to cherish connections and kindness — that’s what makes life meaningful.

And finally, how about a laugh?

My cousin, Sherry is stopping by here tomorrow. For fun, I asked ChatGPT to create a photo of her with a handsome dude dressed like Santa. I know now I should’ve started a new chat before asking for a modification of another photo. I told ChatGPT to take one of the photos above, and make everyone in it look 10 years younger.

It did that (sort of)… but it also cut Mom totally out and inserted Sherry with her hunky holiday man into to Mom’s spot in our Thanksgiving family photo! 😂

I just learned that to look 10 years younger, all you need to do is squint your eyes. Write that down, you guys.

threat of blowing away before turkey

threat of blowing away before turkey

It was so windy yesterday, I worried that we’d be blown away before we could enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. 30-40 mph wind gusts and I’m surprised the pool cover survived. Temps dropped and saying today is chilly would be a HUGE understatement.

Happy Thanksgiving from our crew!

My favorite brother and sister-in-law are arriving later today. Mom is hosting turkey day for our mini family and I’m looking forward to it, for sure. I’ll share a photo or 2 tomorrow of our festive bunch.

In the meantime, make sure to take lots of photos wherever you are today. 🦃

Be grateful, and have a happy Thanksgiving. 🩷

Now you know: Turkey wasn’t on the original 3-day Thanksgiving feast — they enjoyed venison instead. Thanksgiving was declared a national holiday in 1863 by Abraham Lincoln.

i’ll give you something to cry about

i’ll give you something to cry about

I saw a meme that said:

Some come from the generation of, “If you quit crying, I’ll buy you something.
We come from, “If you don’t stop crying, I’ll give you something to cry about.

Times have changed…

My Momma tells the story about me throwing a fit in a store and how she held me down and spanked my bare legs — proudly sharing the moral of that story was that I never threw a fit again to get something when already told “no.” I’m sure my feelings were hurt much more than my legs and I lived.

I also learned that when my Mom said “no,” she meant it… no matter how big the audience.

old time collage

In between the two examples…

My parenting style was a mix of the two examples outlined within the meme.

I never gave my kid something to cry about — but I didn’t buy him anything for not crying either. I did carry over Mom’s “oh, you’re bored?” trick. You know… the one where if that phrase comes out of your mouth, you’re assigned a job to do.

Ben & me old photos

I may be old — my only granddaughter is now in high school — but I still remember that parenting is hard work. The balance between love and discipline is a rocky slope and there’s not one right way to navigate it. Most parents just do their very best and pray/hope that in 20 years they end up with a well-adjusted young adult ready to conquer the world.

Indoctrination VS education and a disrupted world…

There’s currently so much talk about schools (from elementary to collegiate institutions) pushing an agenda other than reading, writing, and arithmetic — raising kids in today’s world has to be much more difficult. When the majority of US citizens get their news and base their viewpoints on digital sources (59% overall according to Pew & Reuters — up to 78% of those 18-29) — surely I’m not the only one concerned about how THAT is going to work for future generations.

Being old has its perks — like not being responsible for raising a tiny human to adulthood in these turbulent times.
