so much going on – so little to talk about

so much going on – so little to talk about

I know… I know… I’ve been sporadic here of late. There’s so much going on, but it’s really nothing I care to talk about. Everything is either boring or sad. For example, I finally replaced my HUGE monitor. Not earth shattering, right?

new monitor

Easter weekend is almost here.

Betty McKain passed away on 4/6/25. She was married to Dad for 12 years when he passed in 2004 (her obituary is wrong — the date it says she married Dad is the day he died — obviously, that didn’t happen). She sure was good to Dad. Her graveside service is this weekend and I hope for peace. Her sons are enemies that I hope can put aside their anger for just a short time.

Easter dinner this year (every year) is my responsibility.

I got eggs but have so far failed on the ham purchase. I’m making Easter dinner here and although buying eggs was a breeze, there wasn’t a ham to be had. Not sure yet how I’ll rectify that problem. Ham hunting commences tomorrow. 🙂

Plants are back inside again.

My plants don’t know where their home is right now. It’s warm enough for them outside… until it isn’t. Back inside again tonight (not sure if it was necessary, but I wanted to be cautious) — since it didn’t warm up that much today. Here we are mid-April and I hope the May flowers hurry up and bloom. It’s for sure we’ve had plenty of April showers.

gearing up for the flood of the century

gearing up for the flood of the century

Last night, I listened to Marc Weinberg, Chief Meteorologist at WDRB, talk about his forecast for today. I’m glad we got the first yard mowing of the season in the books because aside from the storms and wind, we’re supposed to get what he called “record breaking rainfall.”

first mow of the year

Ole’ Marc rambled on about flooding for the last 20 minutes of his Facebook live video — saying it will likely claim lives and to never, EVER, drive through water on the roadway. I hear ya, Marc!

Oura Ring’s last quarter summary does not include mowing or weedeating.

Oura Ring tabulates daily data and supplies users with a quarterly summary. Of course, this last quarter didn’t have any of my mowing or weed eating activities to record. I figure it will be fun to compare this summary with the results tabulated 3 months from now.

It looks like I stay up too late, and I take just over 1 nap a week. Oura says those naps are good for me so I think I’ll take more of them. 🙂

My steps are WAY down this quarter. Who wants to exercise when it’s freaking freezing outside? Obviously, not me.

Here’s hoping tonight’s storms pass us by, the wind is light, and the rain is slight.

No matter where you are in the world, I hope that all severe weather passes by you quietly. ⛈️

the many seasons coming at Indiana this week

the many seasons coming at Indiana this week

Within the last 7 days, we’ve had summer heat that led to spring storms. Today we’re hosting winter. Tomorrow — April Fools Day — will not quite be 55° and I’m going to TRY to mow. The following day will be summer with the high around 80°, and then we’ll usher in spring again with the potential of strong storms (no tornados please) by late afternoon/evening.

We’re seeing at least a little green popping up…

spring making some green

Right before the strong storm we experienced a couple nights ago, I looked toward the Pesky Neighbor’s abode and noticed how pretty it was framed by a blooming pear tree in white, accompanied by a redbud tree. Even though spring can be brutal, it’s also beautiful.

It was 70 here yesterday and will be in the 20s tonight. This weather is driving me nuts.

While some complain, others just wait to see what season we’ll get next…

still winter and it feels like it today

still winter and it feels like it today

Windy and MUCH cooler, it actually feels like winter today. Hugo was watching for the sun, but even after multiple tries he never once saw it.

My windows are closed again.

With cooler temps back in southern Indiana, I had to close the windows so there’s no more fresh air circulating in the barndo. According to a Purdue study, I’m likely risking my health because of fragrance air pollution.

I love candles and wax melts, often use cleaning products and scented sprays, and like most women, I also use beauty products. Those are all included in the chemical products that can trigger or intensify symptoms of allergies, headaches and cardiovascular disease.

What to do when it’s cold outside?

If you can’t improve ventilation and air filtration — and you still want fragrance while using unscented products — they suggest using flowers, pine cones, eucalyptus, and try your hand with a simmer pot. All those things sure sound like a lot of work to me… and I figure the windows will be open again very soon.

Do you worry about fragrance air pollution in your home?

If so, what are you doing — or are you willing to do — to combat it?

Now you know: Prior to the Reagan era trickle down economics was called Horse and Sparrow Theory, as in feed the horse lots of oats and the sparrows get to pick it out of their poop.

the only thing I don’t love about radiant floor heat

the only thing I don’t love about radiant floor heat

The barndo has two heat pumps and 6 mini-split units PLUS it has an outside boiler with radiant floor heat. Because I’m not the one putting wood in the outside boiler in the snow, sleet and rain, I only have ONE complaint.

It doesn’t heat up or cool off instantly.

In the wintertime, it’s the best! The floors stay warm and feel wonderful on bare feet even when it’s bitter cold outside. We have a thermostat just like with any other kind of heat. When it’s set on 72°, it’s 72° everywhere downstairs. Of course, heat rises so even the upstairs is easy to manage.

The problem occurs on days like yesterday. The morning was cool and temps reached almost 80° by late afternoon. To keep the house warm when it was so cool overnight, warm water was pushed through the floors. That warm water — around 180° — takes a long time to cool off. A very long time. That means the office — with the windows open — hit 77°.

It was more comfortable outside than it was inside.

It’s supposed to be more temperature regulated and comfortable inside your home than it is outside no matter what the weather is. Not at the barndo!

outside relaxation

It was good to get outside anyway… away from computers and work. Just ask Hugo — he thought the weather yesterday was grand. 🙂
