The CEO of ChatGPT-maker, OpenAI, spoke at the recent World Governments Summit in Dubai warning of the dangers of artificial intelligence. If the CEO says the dangers keep him awake at night, people in general — not just government leaders — should take note of that.
By the way… “people in general” includes every human on the planet. Sam Altman, the CEO mentioned above, keeps telling the world there needs to be an agency created to oversee AI, but no such group has yet been formed.
Dogs are safe from the dangers because it’s not killer robots that are alarming.
Subtle societal misalignment is where things could go horribly wrong.
Societal misalignments refers to instances were AI technology could result in unintended consequences that are counterproductive to society — like bias and discrimination, and job displacement and economic inequality.
As for now… we simply wait to see what happens next.
Since we’re waiting anyway, we can use that time to worry about the claims that genetic material has been gathered secretly from Americans for the Chinese government, and the spying allegations tied to mobile phone apps. EEEEK!
I skipped the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas this year — both in person and on TV. I did watch a clip of Usher’s half time show, and listened to Reba sing The National Anthem. No Super Bowl action here — I spied on my neighbors instead.
Funny reading the reviews though…
One review said Usher fizzled while a couple FB friends said it was the best ever. I read a piece about how horrible Reba was, and another that said she was fabulous. Honestly… both were decent in my book; but neither were jaw droppingly good. What about you… what did YOU think? (Careful, you might show your age by your answer.)
Super Bowl Commercials were a bit lack luster too IMHO.
If you missed them, you can watch a rundown at this link. So many loved the BIC EZ reach commercial with Willie Nelson… but not me. Could it be any more fake? I didn’t think so until I saw the CeraVe commercial and Dawn’s Ultimate Wash Party.
So NOT a fan of Budweiser, I gotta say the Bud Light commercial with Peyton Manning and Post Malone was great, and their Old School Delivery one was as well. I liked the Deadpool & Wolverine Teaser, Dove’s Hard Knocks and the Kia EV9 commercials.
Maybe it’s because the older I get, the harder it is to impress me.
Just like the skyline yesterday… it was ok, but nothing jaw dropping.
Now you know: Kelly, a dolphin, was rewarded with fish by her trainers for bringing them litter and dead gulls to clean her pool. She began hiding fish under a rock in her pool and used them to lure gulls, which she then brought to her trainers to receive more fish. She even taught her calf the same strategy.
When I woke this morning, I had 3 full-fee speaker date checks and calendar hold requests for my favorite speaker/brother that I represent. I also had another inquiry that… in my opinion… is disreputable. Coming from a representative of 22-years that is now CEO of her own speaker bureau, I’ll admit I was disappointed.
The email basically says she has a client in need of a speaker and provides their budget. It’s less than half our current fee and we were blind copied along with a whole bunch of other speakers, I’m sure. The email closed with, “Please let me know ASAP if you would like to be considered.“
What did you say?
Fee integrity and working with bureaus.
The way the industry works is if you want bureaus to recommend your speaking services, you can’t be cheaper for one than you are for another. If you’re a bureau and your client has $20K, you recommend speakers who command a fee of $20K. You don’t send out an email to speakers who command $30K, $40K, $50K and ask them to cut their fee just to be considered. That’s rude, y’all — and disreputable in my book.
So about my $10 bucks…
The action of this bureau is no different than me sending out an email to a bunch of licensed physicians telling them I have $10 to spend on a full physical with blood work, and ask them to let me know if they would like for me to consider their service for $10. ๐
Now you know: An Indian farmer and activist was wrongfully declared dead. He attended his own funeral, tried to get arrested, tried to get elected and more. It took 19 years for him to be declared alive. (more on wikipedia)
I read an article this morning, “Housing is now unaffordable for a record half of all US renters, study finds.” Then this afternoon, I found out we had someone living in a tent just down and across the road from the barndo! Rain for days doesn’t make for comfortable living conditions, but the fog sure helps hide you.
I feel horrible for people that don’t have a warm place to sleep… BUT…
I’m also not a fan of strangers just secretly setting up and living where they’ve not been invited. The property owners weren’t happy about it either, and they don’t even live out here yet. They’ve cleared the ground and put in a driveway preparing to build their dream home. In the meantime, the town police had to do an eviction notice.
They waited for him to load his stuff and dropped him off at a truck stop in neighboring Seymour. But then what?
According to a 1/25/24 report from Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies, US homelessness rates hit a record high last year. There aren’t enough houses; rent has gone up; and federal housing subsidies are chronically underfunded. And we have a few migrants. ๐
Sure, the solution to prevent homelessness is affordable housing, but it will have to be large corporations or the government providing them. Even in Jackson County, Indiana, you can expect to pay at least $2500 a year in property taxes for a non-owner occupied house — add insurance and it’s at least $350/m before you figure in repairs, upkeep, profitability and a mortgage payment if you still owe on the property. (Yes… I KNOW from experience!)
It’s a crisis and it keeps getting worse. ๐
Now you know: The original LEGO building bricks were based off a building toy made by British company Kiddicraft in 1947. LEGO started selling their redesigned version in 1949. In the late ’50s LEGO contacted Kiddicraft to ask if they objected to LEGO bricks. They did not, and wished LEGO good luck with them.
