It was 62° when I went to bed last night and is still warm (warm for Indiana in February) this morning. BUT… today we could have severe thunderstorms along with lots of rain. Tomorrow, the high is forecasted to be 36°F. Indiana has no clue what season it wants to be. What a dreary day!
Don’t wait to do the things you need to do.
A friend of mine posted on FB that she wasn’t planning to attend her 31st class reunion. Why?
Vanity — she’s not happy with her aging appearance. (Like anyone else is going to look as they did 30+ years ago?)
Expense — she didn’t want to spend the money to travel to her high school/boarding school as it’s several states away.
Then one of her beloved classmates (a former suitemate) passed away yesterday.
My friend immediately booked her flight without thinking about a special discounted fee, and made all plans to attend. She shared this experience as a reminder not to wait to do the things you need to do.
Right after I read my friend’s suggestion, I received the video session for our ‘Inner Circle’ group that touched on an extremely similar topic — recharging your batteries to be more creative and productive in business and in life. While it’s not currently in the cards for me to have downtime in Hawaii and there’s no out-of-state class reunion to attend, I needed those reminders anyway. I figure maybe you do too. 🙂
Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.
My favorite pizza comes from Pizza King (Pizza Palace here in Seymour). It’s Ben’s favorite too. But Perry? He doesn’t agree and therefore knows very little about what makes pizza great. Only to prove I’m a team player and don’t always have to have my way, we had HIS favorite for dinner tonight… Papa Johns.
In other news, we had a huge snow this morning! If you look closely, you might see a flake or two in the photo below and can probably make out the ground cover. 😉
North Vernon school system didn’t need snow to shut their doors. On Friday, they had over 600 students COVID positive and have gone to eLearning for as long as it takes. Seymour is currently still educating as usual.
I saw a photo someone posted on Facebook today of the Crothersville Fire Department. I grabbed it to share here — and to text to Buster because he’s in the group. Taken in the 80’s, so many of them are already dead. 🙁

TIL (Today I Learned): The best-selling beer in Canada is Budweiser, and the best-selling beer in the US is Bud Light.
This house is full of fat girls. Mr. Peskie called my hounds “hippos” when he cared for them a few weeks ago, and I’ll admit they (and me) are a bit rounder than is preferrable. On top of that, Dharma has issues.
Dharma has USMI — the most common cause of urinary incontinence in adult female dogs (spay incontinence). She’s on medication and that works for the most part, but there are times she still has accidents. Those accidents occur more frequently the fatter she is.
A diet means that treats and special bones are limited along with food being decreased. What treats they do get are baked and have fewer calories.
Trips outside are no longer rewarded with a cracker smeared in peanut butter. Dharma hasn’t figured that out yet. Last night, about every 30 minutes or so she grunted at the bedside.
Grunting means “I need out,” in hound dog.
What she really wanted was some peanut butter in her empty belly. What I really wanted was uninterrupted sleep.
Tonight is our last Christmas celebration of 2021. Coco will be home, the Peskies will be here, Perry is off, and I’m making dinner. I’m so sleepy I’m not motivated to wrap the last of the presents. I may do what my mom did when we were kids… pull gifts out of the closet still in the shopping bags. Better still, I may just call in reinforcements.
PERRY!
** yelled in my best “always blame Perry for everything” voice.**
COVID cases are surging. They’re the highest they’ve ever been according to John Hopkins University. Thousands of flights have cancelled. We have live events scheduled for early January and I worry about the latest Omicron impact. One of the events has switched to virtual already.
Ben came for coffee this morning and we took a journey down the Disney rabbit hole. We talked about trips past and ones to come. But we mainly talked about the changes that impact the overall experience — and how others feel about their recent experiences compared to previous ones.
One of our primary topics was the size of the CROWDS at the parks. I wanted to compare…
In 2015, we went during what Disney World says is their busiest time. While all holidays are considered “busy times,” Christmas through New Years Day is the most crowded time to be at the park.
In 2021, we went during what Disney World says is a LEAST busy time — between the week following Thanksgiving and until the week prior to Christmas.
Once he left, I dug into old photos.
“We create happiness by providing the best in entertainment for people of all ages everywhere.”
Disney motto
Dropping thousands of dollars to stand in line for everything from food to rides to shows doesn’t sound like a happy experience. Does it? And while the entertainment is still great — maybe still the best — you have to choose the entertainment you want to enjoy because the crowds are so vast you can’t experience everything you pay to have access to.
It’s like paying for a premium service — say youtubeTV for example — but only being allowed to watch it for an hour a day. No channels available on weekends because it’s too busy then… even though you’re required to pay the premium price. Oh, and you only get to watch 10-minutes of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” because too many others are also trying to stream it.
The Queen of England has called off Christmas for her family because of Covid/Omicron. The Netherlands is locked down for a month. I could go on and on but y’all already know it. If that’s not enough to cause a bit of anxiety, there’s a commercial on either ID or Oxygen that airs in the middle of the night that says, “Alexa, play baby shark.” It’s on around 3:00 or 4:00 AM and twice my Alexa loudly played, “Baby shark, doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo. Baby shark, doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo…” before I figured out what was going on.
Now, Alexa kindly reminds me that “Baby Shark” was recently played and asks if I would like to hear it again. NO! Never.
When Jerilyn and Tader’s son, Jonathan, was a little feller, he pronounced BRICKS as BLICKS. I’m here to tell you, I followed Alisa’s recipe to the letter and these guys were like BLICKS! Oh, they were really good when they first came out and were warm — but the next day? BLICKS.
Although the Queen of England has called off her family Christmas, we’re moving forward with ours. Two this year, actually. For as long as I can remember, my Christmas tree was up and decorated on Thanksgiving. Never before have I put more lights on a tree just a couple days before Christmas. But this year, I did. Now all I have to do is drag stuff out of closets and wrap.
TIL (Today I Learned): The coronavirus has killed more than 800,000 Americans. Since vaccines have become available, close to 90% of the deaths have been the unvaccinated. The COVID viral load (the potency of the virus in a given carrier) is considerably higher in unvaccinated people.
