As I sit in my blue light blocker glasses — cursing my keyboard because of a sticking “s” key — I’m going to publicly state that I agree with the American Academy of Ophthalmology. They’ve gone on record to say the claims about better sleep, improving eye comfort, and protecting your retinas by wearing blue blockers are all false. They say the problem is simply overuse of digital products and not the blue light coming from them. A bajillion other people agree with my Mom, swearing they help, and spent $19m in 2020 to prove it.
All I know is I’ve worn them all day long and at almost 1:30 AM, I could probably run a marathon. Or… maybe just sit here at the computer another 2 or 3 hours before turning on the TV. ARG!
There are upcoming events that require me to sleep so I’ll be my best self…
An artic blast that’s to arrive this weekend. I ordered an extra infrared heater for the garage (where my well pumps and pipes are located), a new door strip to keep out draft (the old one has seen better days), and groceries will be delivered tomorrow so I don’t have to get out. Need sleep for motivation.
Indiana has updated their information on who gets the vaccine next and it looks like I’ll make the upcoming cut. No time limit as to exactly when it will open up, but my age group is definitely in Phase 1-B eligibility. No way I want to sleep through that!
My granddaughter has challenged me to a dance competition (Just Dance for the Nintendo). I need to be in top form to have a chance to show her how it’s done. She already beat her Dad. π
TIL (Today I Learned): In 2008, a stamp was issued by the country of Albania to honor John Belushi, who was of Albanian heritage.
I LOVED John Belushi when I was young… even had a big poster of him hanging on my bedroom wall. Upon his death in 1982 (after being injected with 11 speedballs), I cried like he was a personal friend. When Cathy Smith was sentenced to 15-months (manslaughter and other drug charges) after admitting to injecting Belushi with the drugs that killed him, I thought she should have gotten 15-years. I still do. She died last year at age 73.
I do the blog posts for our business. I try to do one per week and keep a month ahead. This round, one of the posts referenced the Crothersville School and one referenced Dad. I figured the “Dad” one would be easiest so I opened the photo app on my PC and clicked “people.”
Now before I go on, let me tell you that the Apple photo app recognizes people. It will know you if you change your glasses and it doesn’t pick random background people from photos. Another reason for me to hate my PC. Clicking on people on my piece of crap PC… here’s the top portion of what was displayed:
So I have multiple options for Colette, Me, Ben, Perry, and Carl. And that’s just the ones that have over 100 photos tagged. It gets better when you get near the bottom…
So next, I need a photo of our school without stealing blatantly from any source. I think about all the photos my good friend, Alisa, has been posting from yearbooks on Facebook and decide to go that route myself. Can I just say I’m happy I didn’t wear the same outfit I had on in my 8th grade class officer photo for my Senior year class officer photo?

Holy cow! And we think today’s outfits are revealing? I lived with my Nanny then. I can’t believe she let me wear that skirt to school much less MADE it for me! I remember… it was a bright aqua with white dogs on it. And that wide white belt was stylin’, you guys. π
After finding those jewels, I forgot all about one of the high school. Back down the rabbit hole I went only with a purpose. I found one that worked but wasn’t great.
Snow back in the forecast for tonight. I sure hope I have some winter wonderland photos to share tomorrow.
The iPhone 12 led to Apple’s largest revenue and profit in company history without my money. I plan to sit out this round and keep my $1200 so long as the 11 Pro Max I have keeps working. Right now, I just care that I have a decent camera on a phone that works that isn’t an Android.
However, if I didn’t pay my electric/gas bill this month I could just about have a brand spankin’ new one. What’s up with electric being so darned high? I know it’s been really cold, but I’ve seen so many people on FB saying their bills doubled this month — even in L’ville. It’s not because we’re home more because I’ve always worked from home.
And since we’re limited on what we can do… we eat. Lots. Tonight was Chinese (my least favorite type of food on the planet). The only good thing was that granddaughter of mine came to eat too. You know how I’ve always talked about how Ben (my one and only) makes a crazy face for every single photo? Welp… he’s taught his offspring well:
Even when not making a face, Colette loves making you work for just a decent photo. Even then, a smile is only possible in candid shots.
And we’re FINALLY to the point we don’t have to put the black hellion in a cage when anyone comes. It might be because she’s wearing a shock collar. I would highly recommend! I felt awful putting the juice to her, but that one single time was all it took. Now, when we make the collar beep she knows to settle down and usually does. The next step is vibration and we only get to that point a couple times a week. She’s going to be just fine someday. Just not today. π
How severe the pandemic is in the places where people I care about are locatedβ¦
Daily NEW COVID-19 cases (7 day moving average): Indiana-38.4 (down); Jackson Co β 39.7 (up); Florida 49.0 (down); Nevada β 34.5 (down)
TIL (Today I Learned): A woman in a wheelchair won a treadmill on the Price is Right. When someone tweeted “I laughed but then felt bad”, she replied “Don’t feel bad. I feel great. I’ve been popping wheelies all day.”
The Internet is flooded with Bernie Sanders in mittens — a photo taken at the Presidential inauguration. Bernie was dressed comfortably and casually at the big event. He was sitting alone. Not sure if it was to stay 6-feet from others, or just because that’s what he preferred. Maybe no one else wanted to sit with poor Bernie. No matter the reason, he’s sure made the rounds via thousands of hilarious memes and gifs.
I simply couldn’t help myself…
TIL (Today I Learned): During the peak of the financial crisis of 2008, Volkswagen became the most valuable company in the world for one day despite being on the brink of bankruptcy. How’d that happen? Read more about the ‘short-squeeze’ amidst chaos…
Like a bajillion other people, I cut the cord to cable TV. Prices continued to go up while programming options declined. I’ve tried every service — from Hulu to Sling and more. I ended up with YouTube TV. Happy in the beginning, my monthly bill has now increased to about the same as I was paying for cable.
So with my Internet connectivity ($70/m) plus YouTube TV (now $65/m) plus Netflix that I rarely watch ($12/m) plus Apple TV ($5/m) and Disney ($7/m) I’m paying $159/m to connect to the Internet and watch TV for 30-60 minutes a day as I fall asleep in bed at night. And I just added Discovery + as a trial ($7/m).
It’s not lost on me that a cooking show is my top recommended choice.
I added Discovery + in hopes that I could dump YouTube TV. I only watch news channels when something is happening… for example, I had on Fox News (with an occasional flip to CNN) during the attack on the US Capitol and I’d hate to give that up! I switch it up between Oxygen and ID at night to sleep (maybe why my sleep habits are crap), and I hit up HGTV occasionally. TADA! That’s it.
I’m spending way too much for TV programming I don’t watch very often anyway — even during a pandemic.
I’ll provide a review within the next 5-7 days on Discovery +. In the meantime, I’m going to eat the brownies I made yesterday (don’t get excited — it was a box mix). If this happened BEFORE watching even one new episode of Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Table, just think of what could be the future potential of my cooking prowess. π
And late yesterday afternoon — and even into the evening hours, we got more snow! Woot! Not much sticking — a little ground cover and nothing on the roads, but I’ll take it anyway.
