My favorite brother has a new book forthcoming. It will release later this year but the timeframe has yet to be established. No matter, I’m already excited! A new book generates new business and I love being busy (not that I’m not already, I must add).
Another thing I really enjoy is using my creative skills to develop all kinds of marketing. Stuff like this…

Next week, I’m going to apply some of that left-over creativeness to non-work adventures that I’ll share here as well. Ben, Colette, Perry and I have tried the ‘dirty cup pour’ technique before, and we still have our ‘paint shop’ set-up in the garage ready and waiting. New canvases, floetrol and paint colors have been shipped and we’re soon to be famous.
Maybe I can think of some ultimate package for fans to purchase… For example, pre-order 100 signed books from an amazing author and receive a fabulous painting signed by a soon-to-be famous artist. Just let me know your shipping address and I’ll make it happen. 🙂

Perry is going to have to get better quick — we have breadsticks to eat.

It’s a tradition around here that the birthday boy/girl picks the eating establishment to celebrate. Perry, being under the weather, got carry-out miso soup.
I’ve been spraying Lysol like it’s my job and so far (knock on wood), I’ve not picked up the germs he’s been spreading around. Waiting on Colette for the cake and ice-cream day (she’s at her Mom’s this weekend) and I’m hoping when it’s time to blow out the candles, Perry doesn’t blast us all with microorganisms.
Happy birthday to Perry!

TMTR: Gun Control — raise the age to 21 and ban bump stocks. Figure the rest out later.

as seen on Facebook
Seems like everyone is weighing in on the issue of gun control. Social media is saturated with it. I’ve absorbed opinions from my brother and colleagues — to friends in the US, Florida specifically, and Canada. I’ve read a bunch of articles and watched interviews given on the subject. That certainly doesn’t make me an expert, but it does allow me to form an opinion. A partial one at least.
The Second Amendment, adopted in 1791, did not take into consideration the future advancement of semiautomatic and automatic weapons. Certainly we can all agree with that. Right so far? And, we want children to be safe — especially at school. Still with me?
But here’s where it gets tricky…
Raising the firearm possession age to 21 makes sense to me. While raising the age to 21 would deter school shootings, it doesn’t address other mass shootings like the one at the nightclub in Florida or the Harvest music festival shooting in Las Vegas. Based upon this, banning bump stocks sounds reasonable to me too. (In light of recent news of an elementary teacher in a neighboring town being arrested for distributing child pornography, the thought of giving guns to teachers makes my head spin.)
And here’s where it gets tricker…
The general public does not know the difference between a full automatic and a semi-automatic firearm. Robert Crook, executive director of the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen, said “the term ‘assault weapon,’ as used by the media, is a media invention.” It’s my opinion media is a HUGE problem in all of this and I agree with Mark Sanborn who said, “We can all benefit from less information and more insight.”

So what can we agree to ban?
Do it Australia’s way or Denmark’s way? (From one friend… “We are Americans, for crying out loud! Can’t we figure it out for ourselves? STOP TRYING TO BE LIKE SOMEONE ELSE!“)
So why not tackle the easy stuff immediately, (like raising the age and banning bump stocks), and THEN tackle the more difficult arguments (ones that I haven’t even decided that I would support) after that? Seems like that would be a good and sensible beginning. No?
I’m the girl that years ago enjoyed shooting a Mac 11 machine gun with an ex-boyfriend (sorry Mom!). He has been an Indiana State Trooper for several years now. I understand it’s not all about the guns — but I also understand that the world has changed. There have been children arrested in neighboring communities just this week for school threats/intimidation. Still, I’m of the opinion we have enough governmental control (and they sure make us pay in taxes even for what we don’t want), and hate to see more regulations because a small percentage of people are evil, want attention, are bat-shit crazy or a combination of all three.
In the meantime, thoughts and prayers never hurt…

The pesky non-neighbors love Facetime calls so they can see and talk to Colette. Several days after our last call, I looked more closely at their expressions. I’m pretty sure the emotion I see is plain old jealousy. While they certainly have the Florida weather in their favor, they don’t get hugs like the one they’re watching me get. 🙂

Ok… so maybe it’s not really jealousy but adoration — because jealousy is ugly.
There was a time I jealous of everything and everyone. So jealous/controlling that I don’t know how anyone could stand to be around me. It took being on the receiving end of the green monster (twice… because I’m a slow learner) for me to realize that being jealous only serves to poke the liar that, for the most part, remains dormant in the majority of us. It makes everyone miserable and it’s good for nothing else.

Is it better to color your gray hair for the rest of your life — or is it better to simply have no hair?
Even Perry agrees that ANY hair is better than no hair.
In my youth, I was happy I had dark hair like my Dad (what little he had remaining anyway). 100 years later, Mom’s blonde hair still looks blonde and her gray looks like stylish highlights. Hardly seems fair.
Not one to complain, I must admit I’m grateful that I at least have hair to color… unlike Perry… the guy with a birthday next week that probably has follicles dying right this second.
