There are days my dogs are out of control. They’re horrible. Dharma loves the snow but can barely get around in it. Merida isn’t a huge fan but won’t let any living being go outside without her. And Hugo thinks snow is the best thing ever. He’s logged at least 200 miles of zoomies with only one accident.
The container holding the snake plant — my favorite, of course — was broken and I didn’t have another. I found a red storage box for a temporary fix and picked up a planter at Walmart that will never be a favorite.
Cold air makes for some major friskiness.
Dogs don’t have sweat glands all over their bodies like humans, so the cooler temps are invigorating. If only I could figure out how to make Hugo and Merida leave that instinct to run, play and hunt at the door. The only upside is after running the 200 miles of zoomies, Hugo’s energy level bottoms out and we have a short reprieve.
Now you know: 41% of American adults believe in ghosts.
I’m writing this after midnight so it’s officially Saturday, but what I’m sharing is from last night — which was less than an hour ago. Confused yet? 😉
Crothersville is buried.
Snowfall started around noon and it was beautiful! I’m feeding every bird in Jackson County. I have 2 feeders and they require refilling at least once a day.
Perry left work early and beat the bad roads, but Ben said US 31 was 20 mph tops around 3 hours later. By nightfall, we had quite a bit more snow on top of what we already had. It’s still snowing here. For snow totals in this contest, we take first place.
Perry’s nephew, Coty, lives in Kentucky just south of Warsaw and they’ve gotten about 1/2 of what we have (which is double Katie or Scott). He sent videos and I simply don’t have the energy to convert them for web display. You’ll have to take my word for it that he’s in 2nd place for this snow total contest.
Perry’s Mom in Rising Sun hits 3rd place for snow totals.
Perry’s Mom loves snow even more than I do. She’s so thrilled and sent at least 20 photos. Here’s one…
Katie got snow at her home in Sevierville this time around.
Katie missed the snowstorm we had earlier in the week and was excited for this snow. She was picked up for work and was only there about 3 hours before her ride (also her boss) picked her up and closed their store. She took this photo and snickered over the panic because their accumulation was nothing close to ours. Evidently they aren’t as prepared to deal with snow as we are in Indiana.
She’s tied for 4th with Scott in Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne may be way north of the Ville, but they haven’t gotten dumped on either.
I figured Scott would have more snow at his place since he’s 200 miles north of here, but no! Just a few inches from both storms combined.
I love me some snow… but I’m about over it for awhile.
Now you know: In 2020, Costco stopped selling Chaokoh coconut milk after reports of forced monkey labor were revealed. Monkeys were allegedly forced to pick coconuts, chained, caged, and had their teeth pulled to prevent resistance. Costco halted purchases and demanded audits to ensure humane practices.
I had no idea who I could get to clean my driveway of snow since the Reynold’s family go to Florida in the winter months, so I called the dude that delivers wood for us. I figured he’d know someone and sure enough, he did.
Fluff to the rescue!
We’re clear to get cars to the road now. Yay! I have to admit, telling him where the driveway was under all that snow was a challenge. Funny how you can look at something every single day, but when it comes to knowing where it is when you can’t see it you can only guess.
Following the SUV tracks was wrong.
Not sure if it was Perry or Ben that missed the driveway right after the snow dump (maybe both of them), but that took Fluff off in a direction to clean a patch in the yard… and in the corner of Mr. Farmer’s field. Uh oh. 😬
Oh well… we did our best and it is what it is. I’m about to attempt to get the Mini out because I’m FREE… thanks to good ole’ Fluff.
Now you know: In 1928, millionaire Howard Hughes set a bizarre rule for his staff: they had to handle everything he touched with tissues to avoid germs. Later in life, Hughes became so obsessed with cleanliness that he lived in sealed rooms, wore tissue boxes on his feet, and stored his urine in jars.
I got out of bed late this morning and the dogs were more than ready to take a trip (or 10) outside. Dharma has resorted to simply not getting off the deck since she had a hard time getting up the one step yesterday evening. She’s proof it’s still doing something out there…
“I don’t want to stay home another day,” he said.
I saw my friend, Alisa, made it to work in Seymour via a Facebook video she shared of the roads. Ben was determined to get to work, primarily because he didn’t want to sit in the house all day. He warmed his car up and opened the garage door. All the backing up and pulling forward and his car wasn’t even getting out of the garage.
Honda CRV to the rescue!
The old Honda backed right out and headed down the road no problem. Ben was rescued from home boredom and evidently snowmaggedon isn’t as bad as it could’ve been. I’m seeing reports of a lot of slide-offs, and many factories and businesses are closed locally — but Ben said the roads were “about usual for snow.”
He said they’re staying open with a skeleton crew… only 4 managers and 3 associates to run the entire Scottsburg Walmart supercenter. Not sure who he’s going to boss around today, but it still beats staying home. 😉
Now you know: Judy Garland was very close with the dog who played Toto, even letting the pup stay at her house while healing from an on-set accident. She attempted to purchase Toto but the owner wouldn’t sell.
Not sure how much snow is on the ground but it’s still coming down. Before dark, it was still snowing with no freezing rain or sleet here on the outskirts of the ville.
At close to 7:30 PM currently, the flakes are huge. Scottsburg Walmart is closing at 8:00 PM — not sure that’s EVER happened — and Jackson County is in a “red” travel zone.
UPDATE 8:35 PM: Sleet has started. Not only can we hear it on the metal roof here at the barndo, but right in front of the door on the deck — where the dogs go out — it’s made a thick layer of hard crusty stuff on top of the snow. Still hoping freezing rain bypasses us and the power hangs in there.
More tomorrow… here’s hoping the power stays on wherever you are (and here too!).
