First, Mother, my food post from yesterday does NOT look like something the dog threw up. Ok… so the photo wasn’t great, but the food really was. I promise. But maybe you should have Perry’s future partner provide recipes to you (see below) instead of your favorite daughter.
ChatGPT creates future partners!
I’ve said before I’m so very tired of bad AI — but I love the fun things you can create when using it too! I noticed a new offering under the image tab of ChatGPT where you can upload a photo and it will generate your perfect future partner. Of course, I couldn’t resist trying it… and no way would I spare Ben or Perry!
Perry said: “I’m glad you two are going to be happy.” 😂
Perry was a tad snippy because he wasn’t crazy about his future love interest. Obviously, she’s a better cook than I am and they’re both packing the weight to prove it. She’s probably already started writing up recipes to pass to those Pesky Neighbors.
Oh, and Gracie has been reincarnated too!
Hugo’s thrilled she likes dogs and hopes she’ll make homemade dog food dishes. 😉
Now you know: The sun isn’t “strong enough” in northern latitudes to produce vitamin D during the winter, no matter how much sunlight you get.
I read that older Facebook users stop using the platform over privacy concerns, while younger ones break from it over mental health and prioritizing engagement.
The reason I rarely visit FB anymore doesn’t make the top 5 list.
And no, it’s not because of my dogs; however, I HATE seeing the fake “dog is hurt” shares — and especially the ones struggling for adoption or rescue from some precarious situation.
Based on available data up to 2026, here are the top five reasons people stop using Facebook, drawn from surveys, studies, and user sentiments:
privacy concerns
irrelevant ads
family and friends aren’t as active as before
shift to alternative platforms
mental health and time wastage
I’m over it because my tolerance for stupidity is waining the older I get.
FaceBook — even more so than other social media platforms — is filled with fake bullshit. One right after another you’ll find some fake AI video clip that people share as factual. Most are so obvious… yet people believe what they see and share it like it’s their job. “Did you see the dog jump in the water to save the cat in the flood?” Followed by… “Did you see the video of Trump dancing on the grave of an unknown soldier?“
Good grief, people!
Please note, making a joke isn’t the same as trying to pass off a fake as an original.
Y’all know I love bugging around with AI as much as anyone… but I don’t share any image or video clip that’s made-up with AI and try to tell you it’s real. Except for the 3 images below. They are for sure original images that have NOT been manipulated by any means including AI. 🙄
Now you know: Dolly Parton secretly coproduced Buffy the Vampire Slayer through her company, Sandollar Entertainment. As an easter egg, she and Buffy share the same birthday, which are on January 19.
It’s that time of year when people make resolutions they rarely keep. I’ve done it — and I’m sure you have too. Losing weight is a biggie — exercise more is up there too. Good intentions, for sure, but effort wains and goals are oftentimes not realized.
For 2026, I challenge you to ask yourself a simple but powerful question that will help you grow in the near year.
What do I want more of this year—and what can I let go of?
Answering this question helps you focus on adding more of what matters while also clearing space for it. The catch is that you still have to make your answer realistic. Like… if you want more money you likely have to let go of personal time since odds are not in your favor to win the lottery. If you want more personal time, you may need to cut out some of the material things you enjoy.
Consider habits, grudges, commitments, or mindsets that no longer serve you. Releasing these creates space for growth and lighter energy moving forward.
An experiment with an interesting outcome…
In the last 30 days I’ve consciously refrained from posting much on controversial or political viewpoints. Now I know my test is far from being a factual revelation or even a reflection of anything other than just my personal observations… but it’s still interesting.
These are stats from this website for the past 30 days and how it compared to the previous 30 days:
If I cared about having more visitors to whatifitdid.com (which I don’t), I should post more about the Epstein files, freedom of speech, and Donald Trump. If I made money from ad revenue here (which I don’t), I’d be blabbing more about Kash Patel and less about senior living in rural Indiana.
Bounce rate is a percentage that’s based upon how many visitors hit one page and leave. A good bounce rate is below 40% and overall average across the board is under 55%. In other words, a huge increase in visitors leaving after 4 seconds means they aren’t finding the material they expected or find interesting. Visitors here prefer controversial and political content. It makes me wonder if that’s what visitors want at every website they visit — and if it’s a contributing factor to how media has evolved with the Internet.
I don’t care about attention, hits, or visitor numbers.
I post about things I enjoy and simple lifestyle perspectives — an old woman with 3 dogs living in a pole barn on a county road outside a tiny town in Indiana. When I have thoughts about something controversial or political I’ll share them, but I’m not going to do it for hits or views. I only share what I want to.
That includes dog memes.
My answer to the above question for 2026 will not include changing what I do here to garner more attention. 🙂
Now you know: During the final 24 hours of George Washington’s life, his physicians withdrew approximately 80 ounces (2.3 liters) of blood in an attempt to treat his throat infection. This amount represented about 40% of his total blood volume.
I probably shouldn’t write about this without first contacting a patent attorney, but here I am yapping anyway. I figure I could make a bajillion dollars with my innovative idea.
It’s so frigid in my slice of the world right now there’s no way I could take a stroll outside. I even feel sorry for the birds eating in the bitter wind.
An “I’M OLD” treadmill setting would make me rich.
Treadmills have walk, jog, and run automatic settings. The following numbers do no take into account your height or if you feet leave the belt, but speeds are commonly categorized as:
2.0–2.9 mph → easy to moderate walking
3.0–3.5 mph → brisk walking (power walk territory)
4.0–5.0 mph → light jogging
5.5+ mph → running
I’m a senior-aged female with long, but slow, legs.
My daily walks start at 2.8mph and finish at 3.2mph. At my age, I am picking them up and putting them down, you guys.
I gained over 100 pounds while pregnant with my son (130 pounds actually… but who is counting?). Afterward, needless to say, I didn’t lose all that weight even though he was over 11 pounds at birth. After a few months of diet alone, I started going to the school’s track to walk every day in an effort to drop the almost 80 pounds I picked up eating snickers candy bars and big macs.
My legs were the same length as they are now and I weighed around 90 pounds more than I do today. At less than 25 years-old, my fat ass would walk almost 4 miles in one hour and at the time, I couldn’t understand why my Mom — when she went along — couldn’t keep up. Apologies Mom… I certainly understand now. There is NO WAY I would still be walking at 4mph… no freaking way. My legs do not have that capability any longer.
Experts say speeds above 3.0mph is considered very fit for my age group, and 2.5-3.0 mph is a solid, healthy walking pace.
Why not have an “I’m old” treadmill toggle with the following settings?
2.0–2.5 mph → comfortable, everyday walking
2.5–3.0 mph → brisk walking (most common “exercise pace”)
3.0–3.3 mph → fast walk / power walk (above average for this age)
These settings would boost motivation and encourage seniors to crank out some time getting healthy. I would buy one!
In the meantime, I’ll just plug along with what I’ve got and spend my downtime birdwatching. 🙂
Now you know: In 1960, AT&T represented 13% of the entire US stock market, roughly double the weight of Nvidia today.
There are a bajillion things you’ll see on the Internet today that weren’t around just a few short years ago. For example, AI will choose a style for you that compliments your natural body type. Of course, I’ve tried it — even though one of my FB friends said that using AI depletes energy resources.
The “real” me is in the center and I must admit that both styles look infinitely better than my own choice. Guess I need to order me some brown boots since my gray Sorrels are not style approved.
Here are five things that are common on today’s internet:
Deepfakes are the new normal. AI articles, chatbots, voice cloning, and more are encountered daily.
TikTok style endless scrolling videos.
Influencers as full-fledged brands and businesses.
Premium EVERYTHING with subscriptions.
Algorithms shaping reality. Feeds determine what people see, believe and buy.
Something else I’ve noticed recently is how common it is for women to publicly share a photo of their bare pregnant belly. No judgement here… just a sign of how times have changed. In the 80s, we covered that thing up. 🙂
And finally, let’s talk about the weather in southern Indiana…
In 3 1/2 hours, it dropped right at 30°. The earlier storm was brutal with high winds (clocked at 70 mph on top of Schneck Medical in Seymour). As I’m typing this at just after midnight, it’s still howling here and it will likely be colder by the time I get up in the morning. We didn’t lose power and I’m hoping that daylight doesn’t reveal trees down that I’m responsible for getting cleaned up.
All the stores around here were out of “pet friendly” ice melting options because of the wrath of God weather prediction. I Googled alternatives and found out that NONE of the products are actually pet safe… just that some are worse than others. The best pet-friendly option (Dharma has mobility issues and hesitates going down ONE STEP) was non-clumping kitty litter. I’ll let you know how that works out.
UPDATE:
Yesterday, it was just over 70°.
Now you know: Jane Goodall observed a 4 year “civil war” among chimpanzees at Gombe Stream National Park. The conflict involved kidnapping, organized violence, and the total annihilation of a breakaway group, shocking Goodall who previously thought chimps were peaceful.
