The snow hasn’t stopped falling and we’ve already gotten over an inch… close to 3″ maybe? We have 3 here at the barndo on “team snow” — Hugo, Dharma and Me. And we have 3 on “team no” — Perry, Ben and Merida.
Birds gotta’ eat!
The birds here evidently knew about the forecast because they hit the feeder extra hard yesterday. Perry filled the one on the deck with the help of Merida and Hugo.
The temp right now isn’t awful. It’s currently a relatively comfortable 25°. If this keeps up until tomorrow morning, we may all be “team no”.
I’m sure Seymour had wind, but I swear I don’t remember it being so freaking windy there all the time. The pool cover is hanging in there, but it’s not happy about it.
Today is the first day of winter 2024!
A few flurries yesterday is all we got and the forecast for Christmas Day here is above 50°. My favorite brother, now in Fort Wayne, IN instead of Vegas, got about the same amount. To hear him tell about it is like reliving my Dad talking about walking 10 miles to school uphill and barefoot. 😉
Now you know: The idea that caffeine makes you dehydrated is largely a myth.
Perry brought home some viral thing from work. He gave it to me and then I gave it to Ben. It’s a whole lot easier to pass it on than to get rid of it. Perry’s going on 2 weeks of blowing his nose and coughing. I’m almost to 1 week now and Ben has just a few days under his belt. It’s why I didn’t post here for a few days.
It’s not so bad you’re bedridden, but bad enough that you don’t want to do anything. Just ask Perry. 😉
The weather doesn’t help.
With Thanksgiving tomorrow, we’re going to pretend like we’re back in the ole’ COVID days. Perry’s in charge of smoking a ham and I’m doing a turkey breast with noodles, deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, and dressing. Mom’s doing slaw and desserts with Carl’s help. Then we’re going to split it up and eat it separately.
While not an ideal way to spend a holiday, I don’t want those Pesky neighbors to catch the bug.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Thanksgiving anyway. I figure we’re getting all of this sick crud out of the way now so we’ll all be healthy for Christmas — my favorite holiday. Two trees inside, a few lights outside, and wreaths on the doors is as good as it’s going to get this year.
It’s funny how this tree looks so small here when it touched the ceiling and looked at least twice this size in Seymour. 🙂
Mr. Pesky has decorated for days and I can see most of his display from here. I’ll share photos at some point before 12/25/24.
Now you know: In 1995, Johnny Depp saved Courtney Love’s life after she overdosed outside The Viper Room in Los Angeles. Depp performed CPR until paramedics arrived, helping revive Love before she was rushed to the hospital.
We’ve had a few flurries today so I guess it marks the first snow of the season, but it was barely visible.
It IS incredibly windy and that sure makes it miserable outside.
Perry fired up the outside boiler last night and that makes me HAPPY!
I love the warm floors and instant hot water. Inside here at the barndo is wonderful no matter what it’s like outside.
Now you know: The ancient Greeks used butter as a medicine and thought only barbarians ate it. In the Middle Ages, it was sometimes used as lamp oil but was mainly eaten by peasants. It only became popular among the wealthy when the church allowed its consumption during Lent.
First week of October is in the books but it continues to look like summer here at the barndo. Flowers are still blooming…
Mr. Farmer’s corn still has some green on the stalks so his fields aren’t ready to harvest yet. The grass still requires regular mowing and we need to go to war with some weed killer. And, while a few leaves are falling, most trees aren’t showing any autumn hues yet.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for fall transformations.
This week our high temps are around 10-15° cooler than last week so we know fall is here — it just doesn’t look like it yet. 🙂
Now you know: The co-owner of Macy’s and his wife died in the sinking of the Titanic. His wife refused to board a lifeboat and save herself, instead choosing to stay with her husband and go down with the ship.
