How about a nice, cold, refreshing European Budweiser?

You know, I’m all for people making money. That’s what this country is all about – being able to grow financially into anything you want to be. There are, however, times when there are more important things than money.

Take the story about Belgian brewer Inbev offering to buy Anheuser-Busch.

I was going to write about how stories like this are common place these days. You know, “The selling of America”, kind of thing – but I have decided not to. Why? Because it doesn’t make any difference.

Companies do not care what my opinion is on a potential buy-out from a competitor. They look at it differently than I (or you) do. We see it as another American institution being lost to a foreign company, they see it as a sound financial move to please share holders and strengthen their position in the global marketplace.

Politicians will shake their fists and scream that it is the “selling of America.” They will cry out about the potential ramifications of a possible sell, such as this, costing Americans jobs and financial security. In the end – they will eventually welcome it as the “benefits” to our struggling economy will outweigh the concerns of everyday working people.

My hope is that the management of Anheuser Busch tells InBev what they can do with their offer – but I’m preparing for them to instead welcome it and proudly say “look what we have done for our shareholders”. All the while the wailing you will hear will be the thousands of employees and customers of a long standing American company mourning the loss of another piece of America.

After all – its all about the bottom line right?

It Doesn’t Take Much…

It doesn’t take much to make Libby happy. A little sunshine …a squeaky chipmunk …a pat on the back or a head rub and she’s more than content.

I eat furry creatures!

Humans on the other-hand, (myself included), never seem to be satisfied. We always want a newer car, a bigger house, the latest and greatest computer, cell phone or gadget. The weather is either too hot or too cold or too humid or too dry. Food is too salty or too sweet and there’s not one of us that wouldn’t describe ourselves as being too fat or too skinny.

It’s official — in my next life, I want to be a dog with owners who adore me, who feed me and don’t care if I’m so fat my belly sags, and who tell me how smart I am on a daily basis while giving me back-rubs.

Looooooooong Day…

Phones rang. Emails were endless. The day was terribly long. Perry snapped this photo around 6:00pm as we were taking our lunch break. Yup. Lunch break. It wasn’t until the day was over and I was getting ready to leave this chair for the night that I looked at it again. I think we’re gonna try to adopt that pace of nature thing tomorrow…

I’m a Slacker

posted by Shelley

Ok, I admit it! I’m a slacker. I haven’t posted anything here lately. I’ve simply been too busy with other things. Last week was busy insofar as work — and after taking that promised extra time so that I don’t miss ‘the good stuff’, there wasn’t any left to just relax and type. The pool is open and that’s a big ole’ yay! Still, it takes work and attention to keep it looking as inviting as it does today. After sleeping in this morning (which was wonderful), I planted my carcass on a raft in the middle of it for a few hours.

I want to share with you a pretty darned cool site that I ran across. I think it’s totally awesome for two reasons:

  • it contains interesting information and newsy items — brain food
  • I love photos and this site sure does have ’em

Lemme tell ya — the photos on this site aren’t your average, run-of-the-mill pics like on most websites. They are flipping huge – colossally big — wake you up sized photos that jump off the page! The site is titled, ‘The Big Picture.’ (Go figure.)

What are you waiting for? Click this link already! (Might I suggest you bookmark it for later?) Don’t forget when you find a essay that you find most interesting to click on where it says, “more images.”

If you especially enjoy looking at photos, and are following my advice from an earlier post about feeding your brain, then this site is for you. If you don’t care about that stuff but are interested in Indiana and the flood waters that have damaged so much of our area — at least check out these photos.

What We’re Reading…

I posted a few days ago about reading more to feed your creative brain. That’s about the time I got creative and decided that in the next edition of Scott McKain’s ezine, I would include a bit of information about what each of us (the MPG team) are currently reading insofar as business books, and include a photo as well.

So now that you’ve gotten an exclusive view of what has yet to be published, you’re probably snickering over the title of the book that has my attention and endorsement, “Why You’re DUMB, SICK & BROKE…” by Randy Gage. So here’s the skinny — if I would’ve fed my creative brain LAST month, I would’ve been the one holding the book called, “The Age of Speed.” I hope this is a lesson to you…
