Libby thinks there’s simply too much going on around here. With the warmer days, more time is being spent outside, leaving less time for her to nap on the couch. The result for her is a bad case of the red-eye syndrome.

She hasn’t figured out the whole thing on the outside lights. The rope lighting that is now around the patio area in back of the house is set to come on at dusk and go off at daylight. Libby is scared of these funky things; wants no part of them; and is extremely cautious when approaching them — even if they’re off. Funny stuff.

Today is the first day of the Jackson County Fair. No, I didn’t make it there. During the day, it was so hot I just didn’t think I’d enjoy myself — and tonight, it rained.

Sooo, I’m checking out the Seymour/Jackson County newspaper site, Tribtown.com, to see if anything had been posted about the queen contest. I didn’t find fair queen results, but I did find a video that was quite interesting about the porn establishment in Uniontown. Seems as if the Lions Den is suing the county, stating they had lost something on the order of $300k because of the protestors. The porn palace says that the county isn’t enforcing regulations insofar as what they have allowed the protestors to do; therefore, they should be awarded damages resulting from loss of income. It’s my guess that things are going to get a bit more interesting at some point in the not-so-distant future. Nothing in our legal system happens quickly, but at least this lawsuit might spur some movement.
I’ve not been a part of the protestors efforts, but I absolutely admire their perseverance. They are a dedicated group that are fighting a battle against big business, and no matter if you agree with their position or think they are a bunch of crazies with too much time on their hands — you still gotta respect the fact that they are hanging in there, fighting for something they believe in.

More on the paint problem today. If you want to know more, keep reading down the page and catch the earlier post.
I spoke with Craig of the Seymour Sherwin Williams store this morning. He promised to visit the site on Monday. I’m hoping for the best…

It seems to me (and I’m not a painter — that’s why I hired a professional?!??) that there are places on the house that should’ve been scraped that weren’t.

I went outside to inspect the work that was accomplished today by Tim Robbins, Jr.’s crew — the group that is back re-doing the outside paint from last year. I’ve posted about this before. You can view the other posts by clicking here and here.
What I found was more loose paint:

I called the Sherwin Williams headquarters and spoke with a very nice gentleman who told me that their district representative would contact me within 2 days. Two weeks later, I called Sherwin Williams back because no one had contacted me yet, and the same guy told me he would check in to the reason for the delay. About an hour later — their district person called.
He told me that SW would supply the materials to fix the paint that was coming off, and that someone from their company would be on site daily to make certain that the project was completed properly. Since that day, Tuesday, July 15th — I’ve not seen nor heard from Sherwin Williams again. The Robbins paint crew, including the owner, Tim, showed up on Wednesday morning and scraped a little (you can easily see how much they scraped because they left all the paint strips just laying around on the ground) — and even put a little bit of primer (or something) over most of the places they scraped. Today, two guys (Tim did not come) were dropped off here to paint. One of them told me they were painting the entire house again. The photo above is what I’m getting. It is truly getting worse!
Before the new painting project, there was no peeling paint on this house — check out the photo below and see for yourself! There was one small place on the front corner facing south where my renters hadn’t trimmed the shrub, and it had grown up the house and even under the down-spout. When the shrub was removed, there were small ‘picked’ places in the paint in that one area.
The photo below is a close-up of the ‘picked’ area that was taken June 07, right after the shrub was removed:

For whatever reason, not only is the Sherwin Williams paint peeling away, but when it does, it is pulling off the old paint on the skirl cedar siding that was fine — right down to the bare wood.
What I’m supposed to do now??

Above are 2 photos both taken outside — on the left is pre-facelift and on the right is post-facelift. The home improvement project is coming along. Under certain circumstances, it can be a bit stressful when you have more than one contractor group working at the same place at the same time. The new group is here doing what I recently hired them to do, and they are working alongside the old group — redoing what they were supposed to have done last year, and ticked off that someone else is getting the “new money.”
I could go into the whole “renter” aspect of this story that is the primary reason for the improvement project, but I’ll save that for another post. You’ll note in the photo on the left that there was even wood that had rotted and dropped down (oh yah – there was even a bird nest built in that dropped area with poop trailing down the side of the house), so my project didn’t start out purely for aesthetic reasons. It’s coming along …and it could have only gotten better…
