Alisa recently sent me a link to a ‘face memory’ test. Knowing her like I do, I thought that maybe the instructions to study the faces for this test would end with some monster jumping out to scare me when my guard was down. She promised me that wouldn’t happen, and it didn’t. It’s actually a fun test that provided some pretty cool insight into facial memory recognition, as well an indicator of temporal memory performance.

Notice the average score is 68% and I pumped out a big 87%! Go me! I felt even better when I read the following: The area of the brain that controls temporal memory can be affected by prolonged sleep loss and/or aging. Hmmmmm… Perry’s temporal memory score was lower than mine, 75%, (still pretty darned respectable I might add) and I’ve spent a few more glorious days on this earth than he has (quite a few more actually)! Maybe he’s not getting enough sleep…
The one thing I’m sure of is this — if I had to remember names, I’d have been in big, big trouble. I can remember people that I’ve seen before, but I am probably the worst in the world with names. See how you do — click the link and let me know how you score!

Dearest BLOG:
I know you must be wondering where we’ve been and why you’ve been so neglected over the past several days. It’s not been fun, and please know that we’ve missed you. We promise that we’ve not been spending time with another BLOG. Please give us a chance to explain. We haven’t had electrical power, much less an Internet connection, and we are so very sorry.
Ole’ Ike rolled into the burg on Sunday, ate two of our trees and left us with no way to let you even know what was happening! You were often on our minds during our absence…

We want to spend more time with you, and promise we will soon. Please give us another chance!

Meet Romulo and Julianne. These two are siblings — and there’s really not a great way to tell if they are male or female. Most of the time we refer to them as ‘guys’…as in, “What are you guys doin’?”

Romulo is the one with the mullet on the left. He (or maybe she) is the one that is the leader — he’s harder to tame, and he constantly tries to get Julianne in trouble. When out of the cage, Romulo flies to light on something up as high up as he can find, and then calls (shrieks!!) for her to join him. Julianne is more trusting — and if it weren’t for her contrary sibling, she (or maybe he) would be extremely fond of human type folk.

True to form — Julianne is out in front, trusting and wanting attention. Romulo thinks he’s camouflaged behind an angel and is whispering for her to join him.

To follow up on yesterday’s post about having one weekend to forget work… welp, it didn’t happen this weekend. A problem reared its ugly head a little after 8:00 PM last night (yup, 8:00 PM on a Friday) — it was a scheduling issue and I didn’t see the ‘screw up’ email until I was ready to go to bed around 2:00 AM this morning. I watched the sun come up as I was researching, and went to bed around 7:30 AM this morning. The phone rang around 11:00 AM with more on the resolution. The conflict totally revolves around another person simply not paying attention.
As I reflect on things that have happened business-wise in the past couple weeks that have me feeling burnt, I realize that every single issue stems from someone simply not paying attention! Are we all so busy that we just rush through our tasks day after day? Just throw some shit out there and let someone else try to figure it out?
You can’t get back time you’ve already spent — if that were possible, I’d love to get back a few of the hours sleep I missed last night. Maybe the way to spend more time doing what it is you want to do — is to just throw crap to everyone else, hope they are in your head and know what you want and when you want it, and sprinkle some minimal damage control BS around when it doesn’t work and say, “oops!”

In all my talk about taking time for yourself, I find that it’s easy for me to encourage YOU to do it, but don’t follow my own advice. I would like to enjoy one weekend where I don’t have ONE work thing to do. Just one and that would hold me over for awhile. Maybe it’s coming…
Found a cool site that pulls the text from your BLOG (or any RSS feed) into a tag cloud. It’s like instant art! Try it out at wordle.net and let me know what you think! Here’s the Nothing Matters creation:
