thankful for miracles

Nov 25, 2010

Mark Shaw is a criminal defense attorney, television personality and author. In this area, he’s sadly best known as the step-father of the IU student that Bobby Knight was accused of grabbing/slapping that resulted in a ton of controversy and the ultimate end of Knight’s IU career. I guess I never really considered the impact such a public disagreement might have on the family of the accuser, and never dreamed they were on the receiving end of death threats. Shaw pretty much blames those hard times as the deal-breaker of his marriage, and the distance that separated him from his three step-children.

Now 65 years-old, he’s since remarried and recently found out that… GET THIS… he’s a father and grandfather! His newly discovered daughter, Morrison, was born after a very brief affair in the 60’s, and was placed for adoption by her biological mother. Her husband tracked down Shaw by email, DNA tests were performed and he’s 99.9% sure he has a 40 year-old daughter, as well 2 granddaughters (aged 18 and 11). Can you imagine? (Heh. I’ll bet all the dudes reading this are sweating right now.) Shaw is thankful — his once childless existence has been forever changed — and the family spent their first Thanksgiving together today.

Sometimes a miracle is just around the corner.
