you are what you read

May 6, 2011

I don’t know who said it first, that ‘you are what you read’, but it’s a scary thought. Sort of. I read a LOT. I also read a LOT of different types of things. And, like many of you, most of what I read, I read online…

Sure I read books too when I have time, but I not only try to keep up with local and US headlines on a daily basis, I also follow industry specific trending and… stuff. Stuff like Lori’s blog, (written by a mother I’ve never met from South Wales whose husband hung himself) and Derek’s blog (written by a dude from Vancouver whose post this week was one prepared before his death and posted by loved ones once he passed).

Did you click the links? Are you back here after reading the raw emotion contained in the pages I shared? Or, are you simply still here…

WhatIfItDid.com has a pretty fair number of consistent visitors, and there’s no flipping way I know all you people personally. But y’all know a good bit about me, my hounds, what I like and what pisses me off. Same with other places you probably visit. We all have the ability to connect and share with so many different types of people, and of course, experience things we’ve not yet experienced… and may NEVER experience — bad and good. For example, my heart aches for Lori as she struggles to find her path in life — and for Derek, as he struggled toward the end of his. I seriously have no clue why I read this ‘stuff’, but I know that not that long ago I wouldn’t have been afforded the opportunity to.

I also know that we simply can’t believe everything we read — and probably shouldn’t act on something just because someone else told us to, or said it was true. It’s complicated, yah?
