I was thinking today about our quick trip to Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge, TN. Actually, I was thinking about one dining establishment in particular and how I’d love to see one of these pop up nearer the Ville. The Mellow Mushroom!
They call their chefs “mad food scientists”. Their beer selections? Local brews. Everything on the menu looked amazing — and we all got something different and passed around our various orders for review. Our sharing formula worked out since it was much too hard to choose just one specialty pizza with names like “Maui Wowie” and “Kosmic Karma”. And all of the pizzas served have a thick, yeasty crust basted with garlic butter, dusted with cornmeal, and sprinkled with powdered Parmesan right before serving.
Here’s what I didn’t know: A pair of Georgia Tech roommates started the business about 38 years ago! Ok, so that’s where the psychedelic decor comes from… 1974 explains a LOT.
And here’s the good news… there’s a Mellow Mushroom opening in Louisville! At St. Matthews! Oh man… I’m not sure I can wait. I’ll be watching to see if I can catch the opening to share here. I know you’ll love it too!
