Money may be the root of all evil — but Facebook is sure running a close second. I’m sick and tired of reading garbage from people I know and respect. I’m tired of fake news posted over and over again like it’s true… tweets shared as respected news… I could go on and on. I figure it’s about equal between Trump supporters and Trump haters.
I’ve only commented on political issues twice ever. Once to point out a particular crazy fake news share — and once yesterday. My point was merely that the WAY something is phrased in the news can change the perception of what truly happened. My comment came after a tweet was shared regarding the lengthy detainment of an Iraqi interpreter at JFK that said he was handcuffed for 17 hours. (Another news source said he was detained for 19 hours but he didn’t remain in handcuffs.)
The person disagreeing with me said it didn’t matter if he was handcuffed for 17 hours or not. Said that’s splitting hairs that detracts from the pertinent issue. The tweet in question branded the detainee a “refugee” — and not an “immigrant” (with a special visa). Guess that doesn’t matter either — because there IS a difference. Don’t believe me? Let me Google it for you!
I JUST WANT FACTS!
If these incorrect points didn’t matter, why did the CBS anchor, in his tweet, include that little falsehood? He only had 140 characters to work with! Could it be that because of that little tidbit his tweet was shared 57k times and “liked” 75k times? Dude only has 10k Twitter followers. Without that stretched detail, this tweet would’ve been no different than all his others — ‘shared’ and ‘liked’ counts less than 100.
I didn’t comment back because there’s no use. No use for him to waste his time on me or me to waste mine on him. I wanted to ask if he had children… and if so, I wanted to suggest he put one on the couch in time out, and tie another one’s hands behind his/her back (and maybe hook ’em to the family dog). Then… if he wanted to say there’s no difference between detaining and restraining, I might listen.
Dear Facebook: From now on I will only share cute dog and granddaughter photos, comment on the weather, and wish people a very happy birthday.
I need to remember that no drama makes me happy!
