struggling to be politically correct

Aug 2, 2019

People sure are sensitive about weight — being overweight or underweight. Heck, people are sensitive about everything, but the comment and photo shared by a FB friend caught my attention.

Do you find the above funny or offensive? I hate to admit it for fear of persecution, but I took it as a joke.

I’ll never be petite. My shoulders are so broad I look like I swim competitively or am considering challenging Ronda Rousey in the ring. Still, I didn’t get my feelings hurt over a sign. Is it fat shaming?

I’ve mentioned dieting on several occasions in the past — again about 3 months ago. After eating dead poultry every single day to lose what I’d gained, I’m finally back to my normal size — far from “non-fat.” The pair of jeans purchased late winter still have the tags, but now that they fit again they can come out of retirement. Yay! Extra weight is bad news for my bad back and I’m proud of my accomplishment. But I could care less what YOU weigh.

I care that you’re not a drug addict. I care if you’re sick. I care if you’re being abused or if you can’t pay your electric bill. I don’t care if you’re overweight or you think I am. Is it just the word “FAT” that’s offensive? I’m struggling to be politically correct over here and beginning to think getting butt hurt over everything is the new normal.

Me and my ‘size challenged’ hound should just keep our mouths shut and enjoy the couch until someone clears this up. 🙂
