I’m still a gamer. A very seasoned (translation – OLD) gamer. At present, my game of choice is Heroes of the Storm by Blizzard. I like it because unlike MMORPG’s (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) like World of Warcraft — it’s basically an online battle arena (MOBA). You don’t level up a character over time. You just login, get in a match and compete for a win.
A few years back, money was invested in tournaments like ‘Heroes of the Dorm’ where college students played for tuition money, and HGC (Heroes Global Championship), a competitive league that allowed the best Open Division teams to win a spot and win some nice prize money. Nice like a million bucks!
Blizzard changed directions and stopped the tournaments. Some of the old e-sports casters got together with an old team and secured sponsors and now we have CCL — Community Clash League. It’s a 12-week long league featuring the best players in North America.
We’re in week one and I can’t wait for the matches to start today! Yay! A short example of gameplay — the lurking arm Hero being played by my son, also a gamer…
Don’t judge me. This interest is a nice escape from COVID and elections and all other worldly problems. I like the think the pandemic eases back a bit when it doesn’t have access to my brain cells.
You can watch today at 4:00 PM ET on Twitch at: https://www.twitch.tv/heroeshearth Or, download the Twitch app on your smart TV, kick back in a recliner and view it on the big screen. And because Heroes of the Storm is free to play, you can get the game on your computer and join Izit (me), Pharaoh, MitchConner, WildRage, and other friends that play. 🙂 C’mon… you know you want to!
How severe the pandemic is in the places where people I care about are located…
Daily new COVID-19 cases (7 day moving average):
Indiana-72.0 (down); Jackson Co – 63.9 (up); Florida 25.2 (up and red again); Nevada – 44.8 (up)
Yesterday, a pillar of the Crothersville community died who had COVID (he was also old), and one of my former teachers is in ICU with COVID complications. His wife, (a classmate of mine) was diagnosed as well, was faring better but was admitted to the hospital this morning. 🙁
TIL (Today I Learned): Apple employees used to organize an annual award for the employee who best stood up to Steve Jobs. Jobs was aware of the award and liked it. I stand up to my boss and there’s no reward, but you can read about the Apple award here…
