What’s the #1 New Year’s resolution that people in the US make (that actually admit to making resolutions, I guess)? Not so fast… it might not be what you think.
A bajillion health type websites and companies with products or services to sell will say it’s to “lose weight.” They have gym memberships, fitness technology, trackers and more, and they are right there to help you out. Dharma made her mark in this column — no doubt about it.
On the other hand, many statistical websites claim the #1 New Year’s resolution is to “spend less/save more.” But the variance in percentages is so small, (51% to 48% with the top answer flip-flopping), I’m pretty sure I could throw a dart at 50′ and come as close to the real answer as those that claim to know what’s true. One statistic that I do believe is that:
“On average, 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by the 2nd week of February.“
Although I’m not one to make resolutions, if I did, it would be to get more sleep. I’m a night owl, you guys. I simply do not want to give it up and go to bed. It’s probably still a rebellion thing from when my Mom used to put me to bed before dark so she and my (much) older brother could stay up and watch scary movies and eat ice-cream while the fat baby was sleeping. 🙄
Sadly, if I resolved to get more sleep in 2021, I would’ve already broken it. It’s after 1:30 AM and I’m still going strong. What about you? One, a few, or many?
TIL (Today I Learned): The Manchurian plague outbreak of 1910-11 was incredibly deadly, with a near-100% fatality rate, and marked the first time that PPE including cloth masks were used on a significant scale to contain an epidemic. Learn more about the culprit — the Tarbagan marmot — that started this pneumonic plague.
