i got some moderna running through me!

Mar 3, 2021

Today was the day! I put on real clothes (jeans instead of shorts that are my normal winter inside attire) and drove my little car to the hospital for my first COVID-19 vaccination. It couldn’t have been easier… pull in the new parking garage and park on level 3, get out, mask up, and walk to the door. Two ladies were seated behind a table and one was standing. Driver’s license and insurance card were taken and handed back and the standing lady escorted me to one of three cubicles.

The nurse introduced herself and gave me the injection. Unlike the flu shot, I felt nothing. Not even a little stick. The standing lady then escorted me to the next room where I was scheduled for shot #2 and told to have a seat for 15-minutes. I talked to one of the ladies scheduling next doses (and watching for reactions, no doubt) — she was a pharmacist. The other lady was frantically using her phone to schedule her husband’s vaccine since the 50+ age group opened up while I was still there.

I didn’t feel one bit different than normal other than having eaten an Altoid before putting on my mask. (My eyeballs were frosty pepperminty and burning — similar to how you might feel if you poked BenGay up your nose.) Mom said she felt wonky after the 1st shot — ears ringing, etc. I will admit that tonight I feel a little draggy. I don’t know if it’s because I had 4 hours sleep last night and didn’t do my normal walk on the treadmill — or if it’s vaccine related.

I've been vaccinated. YIPPEE!

In the future, if you read that there’s a recall on Moderna Lot 030A21A don’t tell me.

I don’t want to know.

Jackson County, Indiana had 2 positive cases last Saturday. It was my favorite cousin, Jerilyn, and her husband, Tader. They both sound awful but Jerilyn seems to have fewer symptoms. Tader’s fever remains and he’s coughing more (per Jerilyn).

How severe the pandemic is in the places where people I care about are located…

Daily NEW COVID-19 cases (7 day moving average):
Indiana-12.5 (only 2.5 from yellow); Jackson Co – 10.0 (looking good!); Florida 25.3 (down but RED); Nevada – 13.2 (down)

TIL (Today I Learned): The F.B.I. and C.I.A. recruit heavily from the Mormon population because they are usually cheaper to do a security clearance on, they often speak another language from their mission trips and they usually have a low risk lifestyle.
