I can eat some pretty weird stuff — but I’m not as daring as my son. I’m mainly a ‘normal food’ person (steak, potatoes, roast, pork chops) and like many country dishes too (fried smoked sausage, gravy and biscuits, etc.) I’m not a fan of Chinese food, but do like Japanese and Thai dishes — and of course Mexican and Italian. Last night, I made two things for dinner.
Thinking I didn’t want to ruin a whole bunch of lean ground beef on a meal that might taste like poop, I divided the burger in half. One half went to Manwich for Perry to eat on buns with American cheese, and with the other half I made this dish that I’ve yet to name…
It’s sort of like Bulgogi (fire meat) but without marinating ribeye or top sirloin. And, it’s sort of a Korean ground beef bowl without the soft boiled or fried over-easy egg as a topping. While Bulgogi is a popular Korean dish, my bowl of burger stuff would likely get a thumb’s down anywhere but here. I asked Ben if he wanted to try it and he turned me down flat. But I LOVED it! (Perry ate the Manwich.)
I don’t have a recipe but here’s what I did…
I started by making Jasmine rice and browning ground beef in a pan with diced garlic. While the burger was browning, I mixed 1/4 c of brown sugar, 1/4 c of soy sauce, a healthy squirt of ginger stuff, and a couple tablespoons of sesame seed oil. I threw in some red pepper flakes and a bit of black pepper too. Once the burger was done, I put the liquid mixture in the meat and let it simmer for a few minutes. I served myself the seasoned ground beef over rice with a few sesame seeds and scallions on top.
Spicy, yummy stuff with no name! By the time Perry saw it, it was in a plastic container all mixed together. I ate more of it like that later with some non-Korean cottage cheese and Perry opted for peanut butter and jelly. What a loser! 😉
And finally, Seymour schools voted to mask up kids — masks are again required.
TIL (Today I Learned): There is a real thing called “pee shivers” and it has a name: post-micturition convulsion syndrome. It is more reported by men than by women and there’s no researched reason why it happens in the first place.
