Sleep is over the second anyone wakes up, right? That makes perfect sense. My problem isn’t that I can’t FALL ASLEEP, I can do that just fine. My problem is that once I’m awake, sleep is over. I can’t fall BACK to sleep.
The majority of people can do just that so long as it’s more than 45-minutes before their required or usual wake time. I’m not the majority of people. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been asleep for 2 hours or 12 the result is exactly the same. Only 1 in 5 people have the same challenge.
So it’s after 4:30 AM and here I am with the big eye typing away. Typing and thinking about the stupidest stuff you can imagine. Like about drawers and closets and carpets that need cleaned. And about the thing that’s still beeping that I thought was a smoke detector battery but wasn’t and that I can’t find. (Even though that’s not what woke me up, it sure is annoying now that I am awake.)
Before I gave up and got up, I tried everything some constipated health guru pooped out for the universe and Google. Relaxing breaths, progressive muscle relaxation… all that. All I could think of is how I should move to Hawaii because that state has the highest percentage of adults that sleep the longest. (In case you’re ever on Jeopardy, South Dakota tops the list for the state with adults who sleep the least per night.)
Sleep statistics:
- 66% of people talk in their sleep.
- 5% of children and almost 2% of adults sleepwalk.
- For adults over 40, almost 70% of men and 76% of women get up pee at least once per night.
- 41% of people say they have experienced night sweats in the last month.
- 57% of men and 40% of women snore.
Now that I’ve logged about 3-hours of awake time, I’m going to try this once again. Good night… erm… morning! 🙂
