COVID booster – vaccine part 3

Nov 9, 2021

**UPDATED** AND UPDATED #2** Getting up before daylight yesterday, I went with the Peskies to receive a COVID booster. In my city, the local hospital is having drive-through clinics that offer the booster to anyone 6-months past their “you’re fully protected” injection. I understand the need for boosters insofar as any vaccine, but my brain forgot all about that when my alarm went off at 5AM.

Our ‘stick-and-go’ process didn’t offer any post-vaccine observation even though the CDC website states they should have. The drive-through process is quick and easy, that’s for sure. And while Mr. Peskie and I were fine after the injection, we weren’t even out of the parking lot when Mom said she had a metallic taste in her mouth. Before pulling onto State Rd 11 to go home, she complained that her head felt weird and her lips and gums were tingling. Next, she felt sick to her stomach.

I checked on her a couple times last night and she was still feeling rough. I had a bad case of brain fog and fatigue (not sure if that was because I had a whopping 3 hours of sleep or the shot) and Ben was in bed by 8:30 PM. Mr. Peskie called us sissies.

Dharma woke me up wanting out at 5:30 AM this morning so I’ve not moved around enough yet to know how I feel. It’s also too early to check on Ben or Mom. The only thing I know for sure is my arm isn’t nearly as sore as after shot #2 and I’m tired. No middle of the night thought-I-would-die headache, so that was awesome. I feel a little achy but not awful.

Ben and I will be as protected as possible by the time we head to Disney World in less than a month. We’re way past due to create more Disney memories… and take more Disney selfies. 🙂

TIL (Today I Learned): According to professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, the number of people who have reported a metallic taste after a COVID injection is in the handful range.

**UPDATE:

Mom slept well but still doesn’t feel great today. Ben ‘couldn’t get comfortable’ and says he slept maybe an hour all night — not sick ‘exactly’… just feels like dog poop. My Oura ring thinks I’m dying:

Oura knows I'm sick.

I soaked in a tub with water as hot as I could stand and I think I might feel better. Breakfast incoming. 🙂

UPDATE #2:

It’s around 4:00 PM. After that bath and breakfast I took a nap. For over 2 hours!! Back up a little after 1:00 PM and I feel perfectly normal. And get this… Mom now feels normal and so does Ben. I guess you just have to plan for around 30 or so hours of feeling ugly. Perry gets Pfizer tomorrow afternoon (we all had Moderna boosters) and has work the following day. Hope he makes it! 😳
