Because I posted yesterday around 2:00 AM, the bad weather had not yet hit my city. You’d think I’d learn my lesson and stop typing my “day’s thoughts” before sleeping — when it’s the day before because I’ve not been to bed yet, but in reality it’s the next day because it’s past midnight. But here I am, doing it again…

In rolled the storm.

The bad weather certainly tore some stuff up around here. I’m embarrassed to say I slept right through it. I would use the excuse that it’s mainly because I live in a brick home and it’s well-insulated and quiet — and that would be true — but it likely has more to do with my habit of staying up too late and crashing hard. 🙂

Cortland, about 5 miles W of me, reported extensive wind damage to homes. Here, it was trees and fences that took the brunt of what they’re calling straight-line winds. I heard truck beeping noises and looked out to find Community Drive closed with workers scurrying around, clearing debris from a huge uprooted tree.

tree uprooted

Everything at my place is just fine except for a few downed limbs and a battered Blackstone Grill cover — but my next door neighbor’s fence didn’t fair nearly as well. Glad that wasn’t my fence or I’d have been struggling with two dogs on leashes 500 times a day until repaired.

Temps dropped about 15°F in around 2 hours, and it was REALLY windy for a good part of the day. The forecast has us inching up to mid 50’s by mid-week.

Gasoline is up – travel is down.

March 6th — 2 days ago — was the 2 year mark from the date our first event cancelled because of COVID. For the past two years we’ve had quarantine, masking up and being oh, so careful and little to no travel — especially outside of the US. Then vaccines and talk of vaccine passports (which we have only they didn’t get a name) which further hindered travel. It was too dangerous!

And here we are now, still no travel. No longer are we confined to our homes because of a virus — now it’s because it’s too expensive to go anywhere. US drivers have never — EVER — paid this much for gasoline. The price of a gallon of regular gas now stands at $4.14 averaged nationwide. Grocery prices are going up fast as the cost of energy rises… and we’re not close to peak costs. Let’s go, Brandon! 🙂
