My first car was an old beat up VW. Thinking back to the time I was picking out my very first new car, I can remember Mom saying we shouldn’t buy one with power windows or seats because those luxuries were “just more that can go wrong.”
Now my Mom had pretty good advice for the most part, but can you imagine if I’d have listened to THAT bit of wisdom? I’d still be cranking up my car’s windows and certainly would’ve stayed far, far away from computers because… well… just think about all that could go wrong!
Today, she sports an Apple watch on her arm and I can’t remember the last time I saw her crank a car window up or down.
Fear of the unknown… or the unfamiliar.
Change can be scary! Oftentimes, you don’t know exactly what to expect and we all understand how life has a way of going sideways. But what if it’s great? You’ll never know if you don’t move through whatever it is you’re worried about.
Take my move for example. I never in a million years thought I’d live in a pole barn. Seriously. I had all these preconceived thoughts that almost prevented me from making a huge life change. I thought there was no way I could be happy in anything other than a stick built home covered by brick. I wasn’t even 100% sold on metal roofing although many were opting for it in nice neighborhoods.
But here we are, living the dream. 😉
Barndo life was Mom’s dream… not mine. But because I got through the worry that life as we knew it would go to total shit, here we are. Obviously, we’re pretty darned content.
