The “official” definition of a senior citizen is someone who is 65 years of age or older and retired. Hmmm…
I’ve not yet met either of those requirements, but I’m closing in rapidly on both of them. Of course, many companies provide ‘senior discounts’ starting at 55 — but I’ve yet to ask for or get any old age perk.
It’s my bday month, y’all.
Age specialists say I’m in the gerontolescence stage of life — those aged 50 to 75 — the time of self-discovery and identification. Oh yes, they say I’m in a phase of “second adolescence” which is a time to begin new careers or pursue long-dormant hobbies. (A new career at 75 years-old?? REALLY??)
I’ve seen an old woman when I look in the mirror for quite a few years now. Jimmy Buffet sings, “wrinkles only go where the smiles have been…” If that’s true, I’ve been smiling a whole heck of a lot…
And actually, I have been smiling! I’m at a place I love — flaws and all. I think that checks my gerontolescence boxes for self-discovery and identification. But a new career? I got nothin’ there.
Looks like I’ll have to stick with my current job a little longer.
I don’t have to choose that new career for several more years according to those age specialists — and spring is right around the corner! I can’t wait for warmer weather so I can do what I do from here… all the while pondering my next career path…
