Tomorrow I’ll be heading the the local funeral home. A classmate of mine, Rick (Fly) Smith, passed away and classmates are meeting for visitation as a group. Poor dude was in a horrible wreck recently and they didn’t think he would make it. He did… and then he died of a heart attack once he was back home and living life.
Rick is on the bottom row 2nd from the left:
Funny… I’m to the right and behind the 2nd guy lying down in front. Although my arm is behind him, it looks like I have my hand stretched across his belly.
Rick worked at Morgan’s for about his entire life. In high school, he was already working a 3rd shift there. He would often fall asleep in class and of course, his grades suffered greatly. I thought it was a good idea to write the answers to a test on the sole of my tennis shoe and cross my legs so the answers were visible for Rick to copy.
We got caught.
Good ole’ Tom Judd was the principal back then and instead of expelling either of us for 3 days, he said if I could get Rick to pass the class by tutoring him, the infractions would be forgiven. Rick passed, and I escaped the wrath of Polly. Pretty innovative punishment looking back on it now.
On to the good…
The Crothersville Alumni Banquet is Saturday. My brother is going because it’s his 50th year since graduation. Funny, I can remember when my Nanny got all dressed up to go to her 50th banquet.
And Sunday is Mother’s Day. Rather than brave the masses to eat dinner at a restaurant, it’s going to be smash burgers on the grill. I’m sure I’ll have photos to share after that. Ben has to work but I’ll betcha Katie and Chuck will show up at some point. 🙂
TIL (Today I Learned): “Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome” is where the body doesn’t respond to testosterone so they have the genetic makeup of a man while showing the physical traits of a woman.
