rain and electric bills

Aug 8, 2023

Another month with an electric bill tipping at $400 bucks. Last month, I thought the bill might’ve been a lot higher than usual because we were running the portable A/C unit. I hoped that once the 2 heat pumps/mini-splits were working properly, the bill would go back to normal.

After checking daily usage yesterday evening, that doesn’t seem to be the case. At least the portable unit isn’t to blame because it’s already stored away for the next emergency.

Right now, I’m at $107.00 for 7 days. 😯

OUCH! I’m going to start turning stuff off in 24-hour intervals until I find the culprit. The one thing I can’t turn off is the electric hot water heater that we recently started using instead of the outside boiler. Certainly that’s not consuming that much electric! My water bill is normal and it’s not like we weren’t using the hot water heater when we first moved here.

With bills like that, it’s a good thing I’m not buying a lot of groceries. A diet and home grown tomatoes provided by Mr. Pesky to the rescue!

We dodged a couple weather bullets.

Lots of intermittent rain yesterday — and storms surrounded us evening before last — but we didn’t have any damaging winds, hail or tornadoes. Other nearby areas weren’t so lucky. What we got here was enough precipitation to water the local farmer’s crops… and make it so there isn’t any sitting down in deck chairs.

Now you know: Out of 7 recorded incidents of “talk-down landings” (when the pilot becomes incapacitated and the plane is landed by a passenger with radio assistance), all were successful with not a single injury on landing.
