northern lights visible in the sky at the barndo — to the north

Oct 11, 2024

Those pesky neighbors called to remind me that last night, the northern lights should be visible from our location. I’d forgotten about it, so the reminder was appreciated. Being sarcastic, I asked which direction I should look to see the natural light display. My Momma thought I was serious and explained I should look to the north. 😏

The northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis, are caused by the interaction of the earth’s magnetic field and charged particles from the sun. They say it should show up even better after 10:00 PM, but I had to spend time on the treadmill because of my ongoing feud with my Oura Ring so I didn’t make it back outside.

My Oura ring is trying to kill me, obviously.

If my heart rate is low and I sleep good, Oura raises my daily step goal. If I take a nap — even 30-minutes — it raises my “readiness” score and again, ole’ Oura raises my step goal some more. If I don’t make the ridiculously high goal, it gives me a poopy activity score.

On what planet should an old, senior woman walk 15,500 steps on a regular day? This ring is a torture device — not a health tracker. It doesn’t help me manage my stress levels, it adds to them! ARG!!!

Now you know: The northern lights can appear in many colors, including pale green, pink, red, yellow, blue, and violet. The color of the light depends on the altitude at which it’s emitted.
