today is the last day for our favorite sweet corn

Sep 6, 2025

No available Jackson County homegrown sweet corn is one more thing marking the end of summer! Our favorite sweet corn — from cousins the Wischmeyer family — is sold out. No more corn on the cob from them until next year. They also sold frozen bags for the first time and had great success in sales. Partly because the Pesky Neighbors, Jerilyn and I each bought enough to fill our freezers for the winter. One time shucking and freezing it was enough for me. Take my money!

Bean fields are starting to turn yellow in preparation for fall.

The bean field next to the barndo is beginning to turn color signaling the end of its growth season. The aerial photo of my hometown (below) was shared on FB. You’ll notice the field next to me isn’t the only one losing green.

I suck at looking at photos and figuring out the location. All I know is our place isn’t in the photo and I recognize the water tower in the distance.

Hugo’s watching out for snow already. 😉

The pool water is so cold it’s doubtful we’ll swim anymore this year. But that doesn’t stop it getting leaves dropped in that we have to keep cleaned out until the weather stays cool enough for closing chemicals and a cover.

All the puppies love the cooler temps. Dharma even loved the small amount of rain that fell this morning.

Now you know: In 2017, Japan arrested a 74 year old man who had committed over 250 burglaries dressed as a ninja. He avoided most surveillance, but was seen “navigating tight spaces and running on walls.”
