starting to look like summer around the barndo

May 11, 2026

This past weekend was filled with hard work to usher winter out and summer in. Spring shouldn’t really be a “season” — it’s merely a transition period. Are you with me on this?

Spring is the time to plant crops for summer growth; the time to clear winter debris so it looks good in the summer; and the time to whip our yards and gardens into shape to enjoy once summertime officially arrives.

Sadly, my peony didn’t make it through the winter. It’s my favorite flower… so of course, it’s the dead one. 😩

Spring = Work

  1. Mowed the yard and weed eated. CHECK!
  2. Flower garden weeded and mulched. CHECK!
  3. Hot Tub refilled and ready. CHECK!
  4. Trees purchased planted. TO DO!
  5. Left-over wood stacked. TO DO!
  6. Pool opened. TO DO!
  7. Deck repainted. TO DO!
  8. A bajillion other things to numerous to list. TO DO!

Being a homeowner is expensive… and it’s hard work too.

When you own a place there’s always something — something broken or in need of repair — and there’s constant maintenance required. It’s never ending.

But it’s also rewarding!

And if you’re really lucky — and this is my viewpoint only — your home is in a place without neighbors. 🩷

Now you know: Blue whales have around 1,000 times more cells than humans do, yet they don’t appear to suffer from higher cancer rates. A mystery that scientists call Peto’s Paradox.
