I get excited over fresh homegrown tomatoes. I can’t wait until the first ripe one hits my plate! I like cucumbers, green onions, and many other produce items from the garden of Mr. Pesky… but I LOVE tomatoes.
Experimentation is implemented to the point it’s like research.
Every year, those pesky neighbors try some new type of tomato plant. Some of them are decent, and some of them are a fail.
There are other new variations that my Momma likes and I simply don’t. Goat bags for example — they are a favorite of hers and have become a yearly staple… but I’m not a fan.
This year, white tomatoes are the latest and greatest.

Because I like my tomatoes red, I didn’t expect to think much of one that’s white. It was big like a german tomato (my personal favorite), so it at least had that going for it. It peeled incredibly easy.
I slopped a bunch of Hellman’s mayo on top of the slices and…
IT WAS GREAT!
I guess this is affirmation that trying new things is important. 😉
Now you know: Like other tomatoes, white ones are rich in vitamins C and K, and potassium. The downside is they have lower levels of lycopene (the red pigment with strong antioxidant properties) due to their lack of red coloration.
