Mr. Farmer finished combining the field next to the barndo. My Momma said she could once again see Farm Bureau from her spot in the enclosed porch. I asked if she’d already dusted off her binoculars. Then I sent her nosy neighbor memes and laughed to myself. 😉

When I said it was dusty during harvest, I wasn’t joking…

Perry also did some fall clean-up today.
He stacked the leftover wood from last year so we’d be ready for Fluff. Fluff will deliver another 10 rick of wood this week for the boiler so we can stay toasty warm no matter what winter throws as us.

Perry also checked the boiler’s water level, installed a new sight glass, and completed all the maintenance tasks to prepare for the first “fire in the hole” day. We’re hoping we have weeks before that happens, but we’ll be ready when it does. Last year, we fired it up on 11/1. Sheesh! November is right around the corner.
I asked ChatGPT about when I could expect to see the leaves change here at the barndo and below is the response…
For your place, I’d expect:
- Right now (Oct. 7): Mostly green, with a few early yellows showing up.
- Oct. 12–18: Noticeably more color beginning.
- Oct. 19–25: Getting really pretty—lots of yellow/orange, some reds.
- 🌟 Oct. 26–31: Best bet for peak color.
- Early November: Still some good color, but more leaves dropping.
Now you know: The Celtic custom of “handfasting” allowed couples to enter into a trial marriage lasting one year and a day. If the relationship didn’t work out, the couple could separate without any further attachment. Successful couples would marry.
